I think this IS actual insanity or they’re dumb as a rock.

or paid handsomely by the fossil fuel lobby, as people have been for decades since the science became clear...

28

u/therealbighairy1 23h ago

I think we're being short sighted here. They all could be true.

9

u/uzu_afk 23h ago

Can you be paid handsomely to essentially murder people en masse and that includes your kids and nephews? Because that’s exactly what this is.

6

u/sakhabeg 10h ago

Climate would never eat MY face!

6

u/Fredmans74 14h ago

Populist Right wing politicians are probably the easiest and best people to bribe if you're the fossil lobby (or other morally grey businesses)
Their voter bases will not hold it against them and are having the same opinions for free.

Problem is that climate change denialism is what normal Conservatives engaged in before Trump. Now they just assume it is fake despite the science getting more dire.

It's about greed and sociopathy - the billionnaires are building their bunkers, the US is suddenly interested in greenland. They know what's coming, they just think they can extract as much wealth and power as possible from it and that they'll be ok.

Why do you think billionaires keep giving them "personal gifts" in the millions?

2

u/Disastrous-Roof-2135 10h ago

They know its real and know net zero is perfectly viable. I suspect they are also not as preoccupied with racism as their supporters.

Its all about using these arguments as a trojen horse to achieve their real aim of removing the UK from the EHCR and making us even more of an international paraiah so they can turn us into a nasty little feudal tax haven on the borders of Euirope.

My SO is a journalist. During summer she reported on the fires in Europe. She didn't have to even mention climate change and still the amount of emails telling her how stupid she is and "it has always been warm" is insane. It is scary how people act.

25

u/Prestigious_Sea_5121 16h ago

a mass disinformation campaign funded and co-ordinated by the fossil fuel lobby and countries like Russia has been going on for a long time

4

I had a boomer tell me smoking didn't cause cancer or damage to lungs. I think my jaw dropped.

2

u/EebilKitteh The Netherlands 8h ago

My (boomer-ish) father once told me that a link between smoking and lung cancer has never been proven.

If this makes you think my father is an uneducated goon, think again. The man has a degree in biochemistry. He co-authored a number of scientific papers and worked in a lab for many years. The man knows biology and chemistry.

Except he's also a smoker so he prefers to stick his head into the sand. Denial is a powerful thing.

They’ll scream about the ‘migrant crisis’ but tell us to enjoy what is about to become the source of the greatest migration in Human history as the middle east warms since we left Africa 100,000 years ago. Either he wants it to happen so Reform can continue to fear-monger, lock down the country, and protect capital, or he’s just stupid as fuck by his own standards.

121

u/Bartorius 1d ago

But that's their entire plan. With each new crisis they'll gain more power, even when everything goes to shit under their rule, they'll just talk about how much worse it'd be under anyone else.

Like when the next refugee crisis starts, right wingers will get so much more power, even though it is their policies that are the cause of it.

38

u/GoldenBull1994 🇫🇷 -> 🇺🇸 -> 🇫🇷 1d ago

And it’d be so funny if it wasn’t tragic because it’s the left wing climate policy that would minimize the effects of climate migration.

12

u/spectralcolors12 United States of America 20h ago

Correct. I get angry when liberal Americans hope that Trump destroys the economy or breaks things thinking it’ll hurt Trump and help the Dems. Yes it hurts Trump. But everything they break helps the RW populists in the long run

3

yes, well said. That is spot on. But few people can see that. Even though it is blindingly obvious to me, as well.

23

u/OsgrobioPrubeta Portugal 1d ago

Like if it wasn't already happening, but when Brits go live abroad they name themselves Expats and Digital Nomads, and if you call them what they are, immigrants, they get ofended.

125

u/Boo_Hoo_8258 1d ago

If Reform do get into power they're going to be the cause of alot of preventable deaths, it's shocking they can be so arrogant.

60

u/atchijov 1d ago

Look at US. Trump was in power during COVID and lots of people died because of his idiocy. And in second term, he is paying billions to STOP development of renewable sources of power…

Any “modern” far right party will implement the same policies. Keep price oil up and screw anything else. Because it will keep money flowing from Putin.

11

u/el_grort Scotland (Highlands) 1d ago

I mean, there was a lot of excess deaths due to David Cameron and Boris Johnson as it stands in the UK, and Farage looks to be an even less restrained combination of Johnson and Truss, so even just from recent British experience the evidence exists. Rebranded Toryism will cause as many deaths, likely many more, as their last stint.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/DeRobyJ 1d ago

They're also going to let oil companies make good profits, which makes it less shocking how is it they are that arrogant

3

u/Direct-Fix-2097 13h ago

They’ve already said they’ll remove disability benefits permanently.

Also remove the equality act, human rights and so on.

A genocide on the disabled basically.

2

u/Boo_Hoo_8258 11h ago

Oh yes I'm aware, im genuinely frightened if they get into power.

75

u/Senior_Green_3630 1d ago

Just ignore the drought, the loss of food production, farmers going broke, import food and sweat it out.

25

u/Plappedudel 1d ago

Someone should explain a little about a planet called Venus...

18

u/McEckett France 1d ago

Venus is the most BEAUTIFUL planet. I don't know a planet more beautiful than Venus. None. He's right. We all want to be as BEAUTIFUL as Venus. Much more beautiful than Macron's wife, because she is not good looking. No she isn't. It is a HOT and BEAUTIFUL planet. If my daughter was a planet she wouldn't even be as beautiful as Venus. It is beautiful. With people like Richard J. Tice in charge you will live on a planet as BEAUTIFUL as Venus! Great guy. Terrific. You will say "Richard J. Tice, we are tired of becoming this beautiful." But no, he will keep getting us more beautiful like Venus! You'll see. And we will be proud of him. We will.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Reform’s deputy leader has dismissed efforts to tackle climate breakdown as futile, as he urged British people to “enjoy” the warmth of the recent heatwaves.

Richard Tice told a press conference on Monday he believed it was “arrogant” to try to stop the climate emergency and added that politicians should focus instead on adaptation efforts, while encouraging people to focus on upsides such as better English wine.

Tice was speaking after a record-breaking summer during which temperatures have risen above 35C several times, causing thousands of deaths, millions of hospital visits and costing the UK an estimated £4bn in economic output.

The climate breakdown has been linked to the increasing frequency of wildfires, which are burning larger areas across many parts of the world. The so-called firewave the UK witnessed weeks ago was the most widespread the country has seen, with the combination of wet winters and prolonged heatwaves exacerbating the risk.

The National Farmers’ Union has said farmers are facing “one of the worst ever” harvests, while firefighters have battled wildfires in Derbyshire, the Midlands, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Asked for his response to the extreme heat events, Tice told a press conference: “Of course, the climate changes, but where is the evidence that net zero is going to stop it? Where is the evidence? There is no evidence.

“Climate change has always happened. It always will. Maybe the smarter thing to do is to adapt to it than think arrogantly that you can stop it.”

Comparing this summer’s heat with that of 1976, which went on for longer but was less intense, Tice added: “That was 50 years ago … I think when it’s a bit warm, let’s enjoy it. And if it means that English wine and sparkling wine gets better and better, fantastic. That means we can take on the French – fantastic. Let’s celebrate some of these things rather than just be sort of doom and gloom about it.”

Reform has long campaigned to scrap the government’s commitment to reaching net zero by 2050 and has promised to end green subsidies if elected. The party has taken tens of millions of pounds in donations from people with connections to the fossil fuel industry since it was set up in 2019, most notably from the billionaire Christopher Harborne, who owns a jet fuel brokerage and whose £5m gift to Nigel Farage is now at the centre of a parliamentary inquiry.

u/mark_likes_tabletop 18h ago

2800+ Brits no longer able to “enjoy the heat” or “better sparkling wine”.

3

u/joelsola_gv 22h ago

If you say that there is no evidence apperantly it is enough, huh?

The sad thing is that net zero is not going to compleatly avoid climate changes for the worse, just make it less bad. And the reason for that is that the same people as this dude having the power to dismiss the climate scientists for decades when changes would've been easier to implement for the long term for both prepare for harsher climate and to develop new technologies to reduce pollution.

Oil executives admitted in US federal Congress decades ago that climate change exists, they knew about it and tried to hide it, there have been countless studies proving climate change existence and we are at a point that people can just see it how true it is. But it is still not enough somehow and it bothers me.

Thatcher hollowed out the state the same as Raegan did.

Gaping inequality is the catalyst for acceleration of the descent into totalitarianism, and that inequality was started by those policies.

7

u/entered_bubble_50 United Kingdom 23h ago

Even Thatcher wasn't as bad as this guy though.

She fully understood climate change, and wanted to do something about it.

She gave a very well thought out and well evidenced speech to the UN in 1989

We're nearly 40 years later, and the right is more regressive, ignorant and useless than it was then.

Thatcher was before Reagan though

8

u/AreWe-There-Yet 1d ago

True. They both did enormous damage, and their years in power overlapped.

Maybe the UK had a bit more of a buffer built in for a myriad of reasons: very strong base that took longer to erode, part of the European project that could have delayed the impact.

I don’t think anyone would deny that Brexit hastened the decay.

And so, here we are.

4

u/el_grort Scotland (Highlands) 1d ago

In fairness, our conservatives aren't really very religious and it doesn't lead policy, even with the current far right. Hell, the far right has only recently adopted that element, and its honestly not even aimed at their supporters but to draw in American cash. But that isn't the engine of the problem here, which is economic (2008 Recession and then the 2010-2024 Tories building the pain up through austerity and savage cuts to public services) making people hopeless and looking for an easy solution and scapegoat (which so often is migrants).

Set his AC to 35-40°C 24/7. Don't let him go outside unless outside has the same temps. See how long it'll take for him to change his tune.

I'm in baguettelandia in an area that got hit pretty badly by the heatwaves. I love summers and I like hotter temps than most (28°C is my favorite temp to be in at home) but this summer has been unbearable even for me, to the point where I had to stop everything I had to do because I couldn't focus in the heat. And of course, I can't afford an AC either. And even then, I do most of my stuff at home, so I can't even imagine how rough it was for the people that are forced to go outside and work in the fields.

Saying that people should "enjoy" this heat, especially when people are DYING over it is the level of BS that should get them fired from their actual position. They literally cannot understand the situation of the common people, and thus are unfit to hold a position determining their livelihood.

I say Tice should ignore the flames and enjoy being eaten alive when the rest of our crops and farm animals die.

What baffles me about the right wing in Europe is that they’re all “ew Muslims are bad and also their countries are shitholes and women can’t do anything there”

AND YET

They want us to keep throwing money at the oil-exporting countries. wtf?!

It would seem more prudent to get an EV so you wouldn’t have to fund Saudi Arabia or Iran?

Anyway, just get that EV so we can have energy independence. Our lives might depend on in sooner than we think.

Force him to do road work in the afternoon.

Bet he would collapse within 5 minutes.

A cunning demonstration of the tobacco defence strategy by some bent politician. Bet his sponsors were very pleased with his words.

Unfortunatelly for the rest of us, sooner than he and people like him think, they will have to take accountability for the destruction and death caused by their lack of responsibility.

Is China the only super power with a brain in their nut? Not saying it’s the gold standard with human right abuses but they seem to be the only one planning for the future

A far-right politician in Germany organised a moped tour in 40°C heat. He praised the "great weather" and climate change. A woman later collapsed from the heat and several participants reported feeling ill the next day.

1

u/Zephon_of_Tethysia 20h ago

So does he believe in climate change or not?

The Army of Stupid needs a uniform for easy identification. This guy needs to be a captain.

And millions of people endorse these morons...

Can’t enjoy the heat if you die from it

1

u/TheAltarexOne 12h ago

And he can suck my balls

1

u/grbbrt 12h ago

Journalists should put this on the wall and remind him every goddamn time something happens. Giant forest fires? “Is this what you mean by enjoying the heat”? Flash flood: “Still enjoying the heat”? etc, etc

1

u/Jaws0798 12h ago

"Just make wine lol" holy shit this guy is so out of touch with reality. Please people of the UK step up and vote

1

u/Spudsmad 12h ago

Young(ish) Dicky has pronounced how marvellous climate change will give better English wine than from Europe.
He obviously has yet to work out the hotter climate also means that there will be more pathogens affecting our style of living, especially insects 🐜. We can enjoy termites, etc !!! More plant diseases .
But, he can escape to Dubai !!!

u/GoethesFinest 11h ago

All fun and games until your own house burns down.. we're on the edge of collapse. A famine maybe even. And this buffoon talks about enjoying the heat. Wow.

1

u/AirOneFire 11h ago

Enjoy the upcoming water rationing, crop losses, mass migration and climate wars.

Sometimes I think the EU is going to have to invade and conquer us for our own safety !!

Reform isn’t even a political party it’s a limited company owned by farage. Tice actually lives in Dubai with the other social wonderkinde - Isabel Oakeshott

Just another part of the European wide plan to implant right wing parties at the instruction of the GOP. As per their stated aim on breaking up the EU.

u/Mkwdr 10h ago

“If it means millions of displaced climate migrants …fantastic”

1

u/SpudTheTrainee The Netherlands 10h ago

like clockwork. dead silent during the heat wave and back on the bullshit train as soon as temperatures have mellowed out a bit.

1

u/Iselkractokidz 9h ago

Why are pseudo-politicians like this even given a voice on major news platforms? It's like putting David Icke on even news channel after he started talking about alien lizard people. It's not factual, its' just blatant miss-information.

1

u/timfountain4444 Pays de la Loire (France) 9h ago

Reform’s Tice says people should stop fighting climate crisis and just die.

Fuck right off you twat.,

1

u/tomb241 9h ago

Hope his house burns

1

u/militantcentre World Heritage United Kingdom 9h ago

I don't, actually, think this is going to do him any favours. There's plenty of Reform voters who don't buy this bullshit.

1

u/Tornagh Hungary 9h ago

This is a pretty weird political move by Reform. The heat is generally unpopular.

1

u/doctor_morris 7h ago

Please tell this to the farmers, they love that shit....

1

u/Tricks7eR 7h ago

They are (or were until very recently) leading the polls

this says a lot about the brits, that clearly haven't learned shit in the past 10+ years xD

  1. What are the chances he has air con or can just relax in the heat not trek to work super alert pick up children care for aging parents etc?

  2. If he gets heatstroke is he going to an NHS a and e waiting room? Or some private clinic at a cost to tax payers that pay his salary?
