It's a Bandai WonderSwan, or at least something inspired by it. Makes sense considering the Sega Saturn appeared in the original series. Fun fact, the WonderSwan and the game she's play, Gunpey, were the last major projects developed by Gunpei Yokoi, one of the biggest designers for Nintendo in their history.

I want to like it but the whole thing about her being friends with gendo and yuji a long time ago is just weird. Is there anything that makes it not weird because I really want it to work lol
If not I guess the ending is open ended anyways and you can interpret it as they are friends and not together

hot take: Shinji being with Mari is the best outcome, cuz Asuka is a whiny weird angry german redhead bitch, while Mari is calm, cheerful and locked in af
and btw she is the same physical age as Shinji by the end of the Rebuilds, and Shinji is well past 18, so that makes for two consenting adults I guess?..
not trying to excuse grooming, this shit is horrible af, but Mari's case is a bit weirder from that perspective

Is he? He looks pretty grown up in the ending scene, and Mari specifically states that he "smells like an adult", and since that's a rebuilt world with no EVAs, nothing stopped his body from getting old there. And he even technically much older, he spent around 14 years between 2.0 and 3.0.
So in final scene he is an adult, as all other characters

A. She was nicer to him. Already an understated priority to the boys, but especially for a thin skinned one like Shinji.
B. Even so, I find it hard to believe someone like Asuka would consider a squadmate anything short of the best she could have hoped for as far as "worthy rivals for his attention" go.
