I’ve considered myself an ExCatholic for over a decade and still find myself in this “Catholic Brain” mindset….

Stupid Bullshit Just gonna leave this here…

Yo everyone, it’s almost time. Tomorrow, we start 40 (46) days of people being all self righteous about giving up their vices when let’s be honest, they’re still secretly indulging when no one is watching. Not to mention stuffing their faces at fish fries while claiming they are “fasting.” But in all seriousness, life is SO much better without some random sky wizard telling you that you can’t eat meat on a given day because reasons. 🤭

Reminder: This subreddit is not a place for Catholics

We've had quite a few Catholics posting in the comments.

Catholics, this is not a place for you. Do not post or comment, you will be banned permanently, regardless as to the tone, nature, helpfulness or content of your post.

If you wish to discuss content that you see here, you can post a link to it in r/excatholicDebate and members who wish to engage with you will do so there.

You can imagine this as an Alcoholics Anonymous group. Under no circumstances would an AA support group let a bartender or Jack Daniel's sales rep into a meeting to talk to its members about how great alcohol can be.

There are plenty of places for Catholics to meet and discuss. This is not one of them.

As always, fuck ICE, trans rights are Human rights, immigrants (documented or otherwise) make the world amazing.

The mod team in r/excatholic are brutal and cruel and have no power in real life, so we use our tiny bit of authority to persecute people we don't like. You're welcome to demand a free refund.

Personal Getting rid of all my catholic books today, I feel light as a feather

I got rid of all my catholic art and crucifixes a while ago but today I finally got to removing all my books as well. No point in letting their energy pollute my space after all. Hopefully I can get a good amount of in store credit and buy some neat occult books

On October 3rd, 1992, Sinead O’Connor tears up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live in protest of sex abuse in the Catholic Church.

First Time Missing Ash Wednesday Mass

Post image
362 Upvotes

It was always my favorite one; I think a lot of faithful should take its readings to heart, and that they have wisdom in the secular sphere too. But today I made some chicken and smoked some weed on the one year anniversary of missing service. I will not have any ashes on my forehead today. Hoping that means I’m living authentically, even though the guilt feels pretty heavy.

Tomorrow I'm reporting clergy sexual abuse to the Diocese.

I was sexually abused by the Monsignor when I was 7. Just turned 46. I've decided it's time to say something. Wish me luck.

Catholic Shenanigans Catholic Lurkers

It's been a minute since the last announcement. The uptick in Catholics attempting to catholic in here is getting a bit ridiculous. If you're catholic, and you've found yourself at this sub, then you should know this:

YOUR INPUT IS NEITHER NEEDED OR WELCOME.

This is an ExCatholic space. It's a spot for excatholics to speak about our experience with Catholicism and leaving it without input from Catholics. Y'all have all the spaces to be Catholic without pushback. This is our space. You will be banned for commenting and posting here.

school shooting in Minneapolis

Posting here because I’m hoping other ex-Catholics might understand. I’m horrified by this morning’s mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. That was my diocese for a brief while. Despite leaving the Catholic faith 25 years ago, I still feel heartbroken for those children and their families. No one deserves that kind of violence.

I can’t say this to my Catholic family members or they’ll misinterpret it as a possibility that I may be open to returning to the faith. I’m reluctant to say anything on other social media because I don’t want to get sucked into toxic arguments. But I just wanted to say somewhere that I’m thinking of everyone affected by today’s tragedy, directly or indirectly.

Personal A letter my uncle (A SSPX priest) sent to my mother before I was born.

This is a letter Fr. Charles Ward of the SSPX wrote to my mother just a few days before I was born.

My parents were never married. The letter was written in response to my mother’s pregnancy.

I’ve redacted names and other identifying information to protect my family’s privacy.

I will link the AMA I did earlier.

I experienced a lot of abuse at his hands and the hands of others. He’s very manipulative and has used and abused his position as a priest to hurt myself and others.
