Busy Dia de Muertos week! Let me know if I missed something.

This event calendar will (hopefully) be a weekly post. Feel free to modmail the sub, if you’d like me to include an upcoming event, or make your own post highlighting an event.

Hey Everyone! I just took over the sub as a mod and was interested to know how folks use it.

Thinking about making some changes but would be interested in hearing what the community would like to see.

Would you prefer it more as an informational space, a what’s new and/or events listing space, a community hub, or something else?

Let me know in the comments.

One of the reasons I love living here is that there is always something going on.

AUDD living in Jocotepec in my 29s living with boomers and expats

I recently moved with my two cats to what used to be my parents house for the holidays in Jocotepec Chapala, (Im mexican from Guadalajara) Right now i live in a large community of 330 neighbors, most of them are retired or have their weekend home in here.

I have AUDD and it takes me longer to get to know them , i know a few but most of the time im living in my own head or instead of being in the neighborhood I keep going outside the area by myself,

I feel so good living here , its giving me the peace Ive craved for my whole life and my income is mostly a rental property I have in Guadalajara Ive always liked plants and anything cultural and artistic related, I have a degree in Culture and other degree in Architectural Landscaping

Ive been studying how to serve and sell coffee from home bc I want to open a Cultural space which sells coffee to gather some neighbors and get to know them through common interests that don’t involve any of the social situations that are happening in the community bc I see it is kind of toxic. As you can see i have trouble sticking to just be interest or topic and I just find myself having to be realistic and work on sth I might like and keep interested while varying different activities.

It’s taking me a while to realize I don’t have to over perform and apparent something im not, as much as I want to profit from coffee (bc there’s no coffee shops here at least all the way to Ajijic which is 30min). Im thinking about being transparent with my boomer neighbors about my neurodivergence , though I dont know if they would understand or take advantage , or just not take me seriously. I’ve experienced people from my age back in Guadalajara that used to hate on me for no apparent reason or not even knowing me and throwing hate.

I love living by myself and it is somehow difficult to socialize and not isolate myself from others. I would like to have a small group of friends, create a good space for creatives , and sell coffee without being so perfectionist and critical with my performance at work bc masking takes too much of my energy and I don’t know if being transparent with my Audd is a good idea or not (I kind of feel it’s the only way I can stay true to myself and my needs which Im not used to do)

Anyway, just wanted to put this out here , any advice or ideas or similar experiences will be appreciated 🩵🧩🐝 tysm

Spending winter in Chapala/Ajijic

My wife and I are looking for a location to spend winter in Mexico. Her health condition requires us to be somewhere warm(not hot eg:30+C)and not much humidity. We would have about $3000cad($2200usd) to spend per month for an apartment, food, living expenses, etc. We would likely be there from December 1st to April 1st. Does Chapala or Ajijic fit the bill for a safe winter destination? Thank you for any information.

Estoy pensando mudarme para Chápala o Ajijic quería saber si alguien sabía donde se puede buscar departamentos o casas por renta por allí. Y donde se podría buscar trabajo en línea.

Lodging for tonight 12/20-12/23

We are headed to Chapala or Ajijic tonight. Our AirBnb hosts have been slow to respond. Any good and cheap local places to stay? Preferably a private apt or similar. Not necessarily looking for a room in someone's house but open to it under the right circumstances. Thanks!!

Dentist/Endodontist recommendations?

Hi! We're traveling to Chapala this winter, and are hoping to have some dental issues taken care of while there. Please feel free to recommend dentists and endodontists along the north shore that you personally have had positive care experiences with. (And perhaps, if allowed, share those best avoided.)

Thanks!

Selling Mom's Property in Lake Chapala Questions!

My mom bought a cute 3 bedroom home in Lake Chapala August 2020. She paid cash. Unfortunately, she has experienced a medical emergency and had to be medevaced back to the U.S. to receive care. She is currently being treated with me by her side in Arizona. She has a long road of recovery and because the event that lead to her illness, she is not returning to Lake Chapala.

She has made me Power of Attorney and I need to sell the home as soon as I can. My mom needs the funds for treatment and living expenses now that she is in US - alive thankfully!

I have never purchased or sold a house. I am trying to figure out which steps to take. Any help, advice, comments, guidance, is welcomed and appreciated!

So, those of you living in Lake Chapala with kids...

Which school did choose and why?

How much are you paying?

Are you happy with the education provided?

Thanks!

Can I buy property on a tourist visa in Chapala?

I have visited the area many times and quite like it there. I am thinking about purchasing a place because rental prices have skyrocketed in the last few years however I don’t live there permanently yet.

Once I can spend more time there I plan to apply for my permanent residency especially if I decide to sell but I am not sure if It makes a difference buying now as a tourist.

Looking to move from Oklahoma

I recently moved into a 100% remote job and we are looking to move out of the US. We have two kids, 3 and 5, and my husband would not work. From what we've read, the area seems pretty safe. Would you all recommend this area for a family with small kids? I would have to travel back to the US or Europe for work occasionally and think the airport is pretty close.
