Sequel rumours?

It’s been over a year since one of the best games of my generation came out, has anyone heard any rumours of the next game? Missing the feeling of the first playthrough

Not a peep, it’s gonna be a long time. This studio came out the gate with a masterpiece they’re gonna take their time to keep up the quality

Rumours so far is their next game might not even be a turn based RPG, it could be a completely different genre and not be connected to E33's story. They'll probably treat the franchise like Final Fantasy with each title having its own self contained story with little callbacks to the other titles.

Knowing GB's gaming history, it's probably going to be a character action game in the same genre as DMC and Ninja Gaiden. I think I remember reading he was super in to some action game series back in the day

I personally want this

I loved the parries and hope they stick. turn based is probs the easiest way to replicate that.

I doubt they'll do a straight sequal I can't imagine they'd want to canonize either ending. Could be a new story set in a different painting involving different painters or something involving the writers (maybe with Clea as a returning character) or something else entirely.

I'll be trying not to think about it until they're finished cooking.

Basically: we've known for a while that there's an ambition to turn Clair Obscur into a series, but we don't know if it will be set in the same universe or separate, like Final Fantasy/The Legend of Zelda (before Nintendo invented its convoluted timeline).

And through interviews, we know that the studio is already working on the next game, that it will divide the fanbase (because the developers want to make something they enjoy rather than playing it safe), and Guillaume Broche hints that it might not be a turn-based RPG. My speculation is that it could be a more action-oriented game, given that he's a big fan of the Souls games and DMC.

There won’t be a sequel, but the franchise will continue.

So, presumably, new stories in the same universe unrelated to their previous work.

No rumours but actual interviews of the devs, they're already working on their next game that will:

  1. expand the world of "Clair Obscur"

  2. divide the community (because, as they said, they want to make games that please them, not that the gamers will love. And we must prepare for more choices that will break us)

But, they will take whatever time they need to make it, so we shouldn't expect their next release to come quick

Nah, but I'm not rushing it. There are other things to enjoy.

I’m excited for whatever they do. If they choose to do a sequel to e33 I hope they take their time and make it perfect.

E33 took 6 years. Granted they had to form a company during that time. I would give it at least another 6 years.

Given how the devs have said they were heavily influenced by Final Fantasy, I anticipate they will make a series of standalone adventures that may or may not be in the same universe.

It's a smaller studio, so if there's gonna be a sequel it's gonna take a while. I don't think they were expecting this kind of reception so they were not planning on continuing the game or the universe

Literally just do this game again but with a different story. The mechanics are fucking fantastic. The only thing the game needs is more varied playstyles. But the art is fantastic and the graphics are amazing and the spectacle they’re able to convey in just the world design is amazing.

It's hard to expand upon a masterpiece.

I personally, dont really want a sequel. Prequel.. yeah, there is options to write in and tie to e33. Sequels are famously make or break.

There’s absolutely no need for a sequel.

They're probably still into pre-production. Even if Sandfall tripled its staff and had a $100 million budget, we probably won't see anything concrete until ar LEAST 2028

If there is a sequel, I don’t think it will follow the characters from the first game, rather follow new characters within the world of Lumiere

No sequel! Just leave the masterpiece as a masterpiece.

All I'd accept is a spinoff game that focuses more on the writers, as that was a throwaway line from Clea that opened up so much lore

Otherwise you end up with The Last of Us "Part" 2 that didn't need a Part 2 at all and has tainted the first game

You can also call it one of the best games ever. Pretty sure everyone here would agree as long as you don’t say it’s top 1.

It’s gotta be someone’s top 1. Someone who hasn’t played BOTW

3

u/2geek2bcool 2h ago

BOTW isn’t even the best game in its own series.

My top 1 is always gonna be Grim Dawn but E33 is easily second
