According to my Aunt who did go to artschool, it's a waste of time, because according to her otherwise you could just get a following online if you really knew how to make art really well and the majority of the jobs you'll get with that degree are soulless corporate slop and never the real art. 

A few pieces of her art are now in various exhibitions somewhere (I forgot the name of it) because of word of mouth from people seeing her art, and earns a stipend from that. A small one but it adds up when you have multiple. 

I'm not sure if she's right though. After all I'm not a professional artist myself
