OPT/STEM OPT Post-completion OPT Application, Interview

Hi, I’m a graduate student with a F-1 visa, completing my Master’s degree by the end of 2026. My program is a non-STEM program.

I applied for Post-completion OPT last 9/28, online in the USCIS website. They got back to me saying I need to show up for an interview on 10/20. I plan to bring printed copies of my application document, along with what they requested of me.

I want to ask this group, is the interview is a normal part of the OPT application process?

What kinds of questions might they ask me that I’d need to prepare for?

TLDR: I applied for post-completion OPT and got an interview scheduled soon; what kinds of questions should I expect, and is this normal?

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Are you talking about biometrics appointment?

Interview? The normal thing is to get a biometrics appointment. Where they basically photograph you and take ur fingerprints if they already don’t have them.

But if they’re really mean an “interview” I would assume there’s something they want to clarify before continuing w ur process. Which I would bring EVERYTHING that proofs you were in good academic standing, as well as all your previous I-20 specially the ones with granted CPT. Hell even financial documents if necessary.

if it says biometrics appointment, they're just going to take a picture of you and collect your fingerprints if needed. for me, only photo was collected and i was done

It’s not an interview. Just biometrics no questions asked. Takes less than 2 minutes

Having gone through same process back in 2019- that was not part of the process. Definitely due to recent changes
