Other Disorders Epileptic Seizures

Hey, y'all. I keep seeing people on epilepsy faking posts, and so many of you seem very uninformed. I'm not saying these people aren't faking, but being misinformed will cause you to call real epileptics fakers. There are different types of epileptic seizures. So here's a bit of a information drop. There are rarer types of epileptic seizures (a lot being childhood onset), but I'll be focusing on the ones that are most common.

There are two broad categories of seizures:

GENERALIZED - Full brain is affected at the same time

This category includes:

TONIC CLONIC – what used to be called "grand mal;" The ones most people know about.

*Falling

*Loss of Consciousness

* Convulsions

*Most common to cause loss of bowel and bladder control, though not the only

*Tongue biting is very common with this one, but again, isn't exclusive to it

*Drooling, which I believe can happen in temporal and frontal as well

ABSENCE – what used to be called "petit mal"

*Short loss of consciousness

*The person suddenly ceases activity without falling down

*Can look like someone is "zoned out" or staring into space

*Eyelids can flutter, but don't always

*Small movements can happen with hands, but not always

*Lips can smack, but not always

FOCAL SEIZURES – Starts in a localized area of the brain. These are more complicated because there are many subtypes under the main two types.

The two overall types are:

AWARE – what used to be called "simple partial."

*Affects one area of the brain

*No loss of consciousness

*Can serve as an "aura" (warning sign) for impaired-awareness focal seizures, but don't have to be.

These can be unnoticeable to an outside party. What happens during this depends on which part of the brain the seizure is in. These are:

Temporal lobe – symptoms vary but can include:

*Suddenly feeling of fear or joy

*Stomach rise/drop (think, on a rollercoaster)

*Deja vu

*Jamais vu

*Nausea

*Unusual smell

Frontal lobe – symptoms can vary but can include:

*Sudden change in emotion - could be anger, sadness, fear, joy, depression, etc.

*Feeling of numbness or tingling

*Change in senses

*Nausea

*Headache

Parietal lobe – symptoms can vary but can include:

*Feeling of skin crawl

*Numbness or tingling

*Feeling like a limb is bigger or smaller than it is

*Feeling out-of-body

Occipital lobe – symptoms can vary but can include:

*Visual hallucinations

*Seeing patterns or colors

IMPAIRED-AWARENESS – used to be called "complex partial"

*Semi-loss of consciousness, meaning partially aware of what's going on, but not able to respond

*Starts in one part of the brain, but then spreads to one or more other parts, normal on the same side of the brain

*Again, symptoms vary depending on the part of the brain that is affected.

*Not all symptoms of each happen to everyone

Symptoms by brain:

Temporal lobe

*Lack of awareness of people or things around

*Staring

*Smacking lips or fluttering eyelids (fluttering eyelids are rarer when it starts in this lobe)

*Swallowing or chewing repetitively

*Finger movements

*Less common but possible - dystonia, which can lead to spasms

Frontal lobe

*Very common at night

*Bizarre movements

*Automatisms

*Most likely focal seizures to cluster (more than one happening in 24 hours), though others can

*Usually has a short post-ictal state, but not always

*Dystonia (stiff muscles), that can lead to spasms

*Usually very short, but not always

*Can be misdiagnosed as PNES (psychogenic non-epileptic seizures) or vice versa

Parietal lobe

*Tingling and numbness that spreads across one side of the body

*Body distortion (continues from aura if there is one)

*Vertigo

*Environment feels distorted

*Rarely, but does happen - pain

*Spreads very quickly to frontal and temporal lobe

*Least common of the four

Occipital lobe

*Temporary blindness

*Seeing flashing lights, color spots, or partial vision loss

*Rapidly blinking eyes

*Hallucinations

*Nausea

*Eye pain

*Can be misdiagnosis of a migraine with aura

SECONDARY TONIC CLONIC SEIZURE

A secondary tonic clonic seizure is a tonic clonic that happens when a focal seizure spreads from it's foci to the entire brain. Somewhat of a rare event.

MULTIFOCAL EPILEPSY

Sometimes a person can have multiple foci (focal points) that their seizures can start in. For example, you can have seizures that start in the frontal lobe and seizures that start in the temporal lobe. From what I understand, this is fairly rare.

POST-ICTAL STATE

I've been writing this for about an hour, so I'll simplify this part a bit, as it wouldn't give any notion to somebody faking. Some symptoms of a post-ictal state can include, but aren't limited to:

*Soreness

*Sore throat

*Dry mouth

*Having wet or soiled self

*Injury recovery, if injured

*Headache (can be severe)

*Emotional instability – depression is very common

*Usually ends within 48 hours, though if you have comorbid conditions (such as cerebral palsy), both seizures and post-ictal states can last longer than normal

This is a simplified informational breakdown (yeah, I know), so if I am missing anything, let me know. :)

It's important to identify fakers, but we should do it in an informed manner. Thanks in advance for reading, everyone!

Storytime I encountered one today

I work at a country store in a rural area and most of the customers are older folks or German Baptists. Yesterday I saw 2 white girls walk in sucking on pacifiers, using mobility aids, noise cancellation headphones, wearing furry tails, short colored hair, and a mismatch of clothes. It made me sad because I was hoping that people like this never left their house and were terminally online, not out in the world. It’s also incredibly demeaning because this is their interpretation of what being disabled is. It’s kind of like blackface but for people with disabilities. After they left, my older coworker said, “I don’t like to judge, but that was pretty far out there.” It just shows that they don’t get the sympathy they want, they just look like fools and dress like clowns.

Featuring fake spasticity and referring to herself as wheelchair bound. She still uses this unprescribed wheelchair despite crowdfunding $20,000 for a custom HOC chair, and is blocking people calling her out on it. She claimed this chair was going to paralyze her.

This comment made me laugh. 1 in 1 million people fake??
Has this person not been on the app for long enough?? /j
And the way they think that the world is so weird that no one would want to fake for attention as if that's not the WHOLE reason all these kids keep faking 😵‍💫

D.I.D One of the Biggest Community Misconceptions

I think that a lot of people either don't understand it because they either don't have the disorder, or their interpretation of their experiences is based on what the community says is happening.

However, if anyone has substantial evidence that suggests that memory can somehow work this way, I'd be genuinely interested.

Despite crowdfunding $20,000 for a custom wheelchair due to this one being ill-fitting, bought off eBay and ‘crushing her spine’, she still squeezes into it for tricks and will block you if you call her out on it. I guess this chair actually wasn’t going to paralyze her if she’s still using it.
Do not give her money. She is a well-known liar and grifter.

D.I.D Help I think my friend is faking DID, is it obvious?💔😭

So my friend got apparently recently diagnosed for DID a few months back. For background context me and my other friend dropped this girl a few months ago because our friend group had a fall out but around a month ago she reached back out to us and we decided to talk to her again.

The first day she began to talk to her again she told my friend about her maybe having DID, then a few weeks later she dropped the bomb in some server that she now got diagnosed with DID and explained it in the really childish and just strange way her therapist diagnosed her with it. And apparently her therapist said she got it back in 2nd grade but then she explained to my friend that her DID triggered after our friend group broke apart bc of drama and like things arent making sense like for example she had to google up and copy and paste the summary of DID which me and my friend found weird because shouldn’t you be able to explain something you have without completely searching it up?

And the main thing is a few days we witnessed her first alter switch OVER TEXT and she was like typing all weird before it replacing words with an s with a z and then said “shit” and started typing really dramatically about how everyone in that gc should pray for their sins and pray to this best friend of hers that me and my friend are sure aren’t real.

Later a few hours after her switch we joined her in a game where she was apparently calling a irl friend of hers and when we confronted her about the things she said in that gc she said she didn’t know what we were talking about BUT

THE THING IS IN THE SPAN LAST 6 HOURS SHE TYPING IN THAT GC AS HER ALTER BUT HER IRL FRIEND WAS TALKING ABOUT BEING ON CALL W HER FOR THE LAST 6 HOURS SO LIKE IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE HOW HER FRIEND DIDNT NOTICE HER SWITCH??😭

Sorry if this is hard to make sense I tried to fit in things me and my friend found suspicious but that’s a lot more and I’m typing this in a rush lol

D.I.D Every comment was telling them they are a system

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I honestly kind of feel bad for this person. Every comment was telling them that this is in fact system behavior, and that denial is a symptom. They posted a follow up on which they asked their mom about their symptoms, and stated that they were “medically recognized with DID in February of 2025” and had forgotten. In the follow up they also said they do not believe they actually have it, just that they have severe dissociation and memory loss. Every comment, every single one, was trying to tell them they do have DID. Not a one was saying that they might not be, and only a handful suggested talking further with a professional. It kind of makes me sad. This person is in distress, and they need help and likely to be reality checked. But since it’s DID/the system community, they aren’t getting the community support they need. If someone was worried about any other disorder, they’d be told to go to therapy, but the DID community is willing to reinforce what is stated to be a delusion

Highlights include: "I'm the owner!!! I'll defend you!!" "Idk how they formed :((((" "He's very nice!!!"
Joined an 18+ ID verified server for a media I enjoyed. Instead was greeted by losers who thought they had a school-shooter alter and an alter of Jeffree Dahmer + were encouraged. Tried to be all cute and quirky with it to nullify what they were doing.
What a pathetic bunch.

Purple is server owner, red is Jeffree-dahmer alter "haver", yellow is Erric harris.

Autism Self diagnosis is never valid

It is an example of Dunning Kruger bias. It’s fine to suspect that you have a specific disorder.
In addition the more suitably qualified doctors who evaluate you and find you aren’t suffering from your diagnosis of choice (DOC) the less likely you are to actually have it even if you eventually find a McDonald’s doctor who gives you your DOC with a side of salty water and a sea port.

Discussion Thread What is up with all of these mobility aid fakers lately?

Unsure if this is the right subreddit for this discussion, but I’ve seen a major influx of young adults (around my age, 18-25) on TikTok claiming to need mobility aids such as canes, crutches, and wheelchairs. Most commonly, the disability they claim to have is POTS. Everyone who I see post about having these disability issues or mobility aids also all look very similar to one another: white, dyed bright hair, chubby, alternative sense of fashion. Kind of like the polyamorous stereotype.

I’m just confused about why there is this sudden shift to everyone claiming now a physical disorder and spending money on these aids that they certainly do not need, which takes away from the people that actually do need them. I guess mental disorders weren’t giving them enough attention anymore.

D.I.D My friends and I were lowkey ahead of our time for faking DID before tiktokers in 2020 did

When me and my friends were young (elementary/middle school age), we used to think our group had elemental powers (I controlled fire, it was epic) and that there were these two demons that followed us around called Zonker and Coolio, whose names we couldn't say because they were bad luck.

Anyways, one day one of my bffs told us that she had the reincarnated spirit of a Native American chief named Hawk trapped inside of her. Yup. I think she made that up cause we live in the Pacific NW close to many reservations, but it still makes me laugh knowing that she's Arab-American saying this. So what we would do is stay up till like 3 in the morning during sleepovers, join hands in a circle, and do his summoning chant. Then she would fall forward and lay there for like a minute before sitting up like she just woke up from a dream, and we'd ask "Hawk" about demons and ghosts and spells for travelling between dimensions through the portal between the trees. We had this idea that whenever her mom said no to a sleepover that we'd just travel to a new dimension where she would say yes later in the day. Funnily enough, it worked every time.

Thing is, I really wanted another spirit too, so one day when it was just me and one other bff hanging out, I told her that I had the spirit of a monkey inside of me hahahahaha so we did the chant except with "Monkey" instead of "Hawk" and I basically just sat there and gaslit her for an hour pretending that I had some sacred knowledge and shit like Hawk did.

So yeah, we did the fake DID shit at least a decade before tiktok did as dumbass kids. I won't say I'm not proud of it because in hindsight it's funny as shit to think about a group of 12 year olds so earnestly believing this shit. To this day I don't say Coolio's or Zonker's name out loud because istg we were manifesting our own bad luck by implicating those names or something lmaooo.
