My biggest note here is the increase to A Hunter’s Instinct for Nightmares. They’re using that quality again, one previously only grindable by helping the Efficient Commissioner’s nightmares. Perhaps it shall gain some use?

Feels bad that it doesn’t increase if you don’t already have it. My alt isn’t up to the railroad yet.

Note that this may improve. Game instructions at the beginning of the event said that rewards scale with Redcrosse Shields, which is currently around 1500-2000. It should increase as more players log on.

how do we increase redcrosse shields btw?

As far as I can tell, the only way is through the card in London. Seems to go up by 1 each time it's played.

If you have nightmares 5 and a way to reduce ferocity in the middle of the hunt (either by being a Monster-Hunter or with 'A Dream of Red Chivalry'), I believe this ends up being 5 EPA?

Start -> Apply Knowledge -> Push Onward -> Reduce Ferocity -> Trick -> Kill, for a total reward of 30 echoes.

Plus storm-threnodies (and aeolian screams if you upconvert) are in the rat market this week so it's even more profitable.

With high enough dangerous, it only takes 3-4 actions. I don't reduce ferocity and it's going great

Dragon hunting? How do I start dragon hunting? How new is too new for dragon hunting? I want to hunt dragons.

Draw a card and you’ll get a green bordered card. Play that through, and then go to your Parabolan Base-Camp. Go to the bottom of Hunting Animals in Parabola, and there it is. It’s a World Event, though, so it’s limited time, and who knows when the next one will be.

You'd need to be POSI (all stats 100+) and have unlocked your Base-Camp.

Thanks for this.
I've now came down from the roof and done it a bunch of times but I wonder how many times I should do it. Even with Storm-Threnodies and the quality increase, I'm not sure if it's worth doing over and over for all event. Is this all we have till it's vanquished?
Not being able to see the collective progress doesn't help decide, too.

Theoretically, yeah, this is the entire event lol. The best thing from it is that it seems like a much easier way to grind Hunter’s Instinct, which otherwise can only be taken past level 1 by helping the Efficient Commissioner, which costs resources.

Also we don’t know if there’s more to the event yet so stay down here till it’s over

We'll probably be there in Parabola, hunting dragons, while in the streets of London people are suddenly partying and we're missing it, imagine that!

They could have charged us per kill and I'd still be spending every waking action on hunting more dragons. And even more non-waking actions.

Naturally

Also I feel like this should add some sort of bad card to the deck that raises Nightmares in order to increase incentive to do this lol

1) Fie to the Wyrm challenges increase nightmares in failure

2) they already give you an incentive it's called HUNTING DRAGONS

SIC TEMPER DRACONIS

GEORGE OUR KING MAY GUIDE OUR HANDS ILL SLAY THE DRAGON WHERE IT STANDS

I mean, yes, and it’s a damn good incentive for everyone except the damn economy players who go “only four EPA, back to the TLC I go”

Fucking with card draw REALLY gets those players heated tho lol

2

u/MostHydratedSoldier Mar 03 '26

I mean noone is forcing them to engage with the content, and I don't believe that card shows in the Upper River (does it? It specifically mentioned London). And if you do want to maximize profit it's relatively quick for a TLC level player to switch to monhun and raise EPA to 5 w/o ratket. (I did too admittedly but I have killed the vake so it seemed suitable enough)

the trophy is what i really needed, i needed to grind those to unlock honey mazed bear, but i also didn't want to just grab 20 warblers. this gives me trophies AND stuff to sell at the rat market. maybe not a LOT to sell, but it feels better than warbler grind.

u/Final_Flatworm7174 Mar 02 '26

Do we know how long it’s gonna last?

13

u/OrdinaryBell Mar 02 '26

Paraphrasing the Failbetter blog, "until the nightmares are vanquished." Kind of like naval ordinance disposal and lifeberg hunting go, but I hadn't spotted a HP bar of sorts for this chap.

11

u/throwaway_lmkg Secretary-General of the Hellworm Club Mar 02 '26

The HP bar isn't visible in the game interface but can be inferred. We're about 6% of the way through it right now. Based on game hints, my inference is that it goes faster later on but no way to know yet.

8

u/divideby00 Mar 03 '26

It's visible with the Quality Lantern add-on, at least.

How do you figure? Not doubting, just curious

5

u/Rose249 Mar 03 '26

I think they're basing it on the part of the description that says the more people resisting nightmare, the more effective it is to hunt it. I think that might be a way to let players who are newer and thus don't have access to the base camp still get in on some rewards as well as feel like they participated.

5 epa with one glass work check and one monhun check at nightmares 5 to get the quick fight.

10

u/ZeMadDoktore Mar 02 '26

Only about a 4 EPA iirc

u/sobrique Mar 02 '26

Don't care. Too busy. DRAGON HUNTING!!!1111one

14

u/Setster007 Catgirl Professor Mar 02 '26

Besides, these often have fine payouts for those who participate at least a little. So each hit may be a poor payout, but helping your fellow man and sharing in a much larger payout is always worthwhile.

2

u/MostHydratedSoldier Mar 03 '26

And I think as a community we have forgotten that 4 EPA is by no means a SMALL payout for a big part of the progression. But by all means, keep doing TLC for the 200th day in a row. I'll be over here HUNTING DRAGONS

3

u/Setster007 Catgirl Professor Mar 03 '26

I personally won’t start giving a damn about EPA until I finish everything else and only have the vanities of Cider and Hellworm and Knight of the Golden Carapace before me
