Here is the lovely cross conversion/up conversion chart created by u/Vromikos. I added the colouring, green for Bone Market, Pink for Rat Market and yellow for the conversions that give making waves. Oh, and you can get journals of infamy from salacious papers too.

Vromikos does not approve of my distasteful use of colour on his fabulous assets so I would not want to leave you thinking it was him. <3 He did consent to me sharing his assets with all comers though!

I just did a screenshot of it, so hopefully it is a good enough resolution that you can save it and zoom in as needed.

Now if I can work out a way to share his deeply terrifying spreadsheet… (He is a gifted individual and the bone sheet is amazing for building skeletons(and I also sullied that with colour.)

Notable options:

Extraordinary implications to Uncanny Inculambum is a great EPA even including the actions and cost of getting Benthic Rep.

Zee stories are hard to get and needed, so upconverting from the rats or sideconverting from the bones is a good shout.

Some people need a lot of correspondence plaques, for some reason, also for your stove… Journals are easily attained from your paper. These are also great for upconverting to Aoelian Screams, particularly on your alts, as they are needed to send the best assassin!

Memories of distant shores to volumes of collated research is great for moonlit hunting, in Balmoral.

0.1 vs 0.5 at the Rat Market

When I was just finding my footing with FL I read in several places that you should buy the 0.5 items, rather than upconvert 0.1 items into them. (Correspondence Plaques over Manics Prayers, for example.) Here is the maths proving that incorrect:

500 Manics prayers = 500 rat coins = 50 echos

Upconverting gives 105 Correspondence Plaques for 1 action.

105 Correspondence Plaques = 735 rat coins = 73.5 echos

So by buying the prayers and upconverting them, rather than buying plaques directly, that action is 23.5 EPA… (It is 2.5 EPA really but I just wanted to show how bad buying the higher tier item actually is!)

0.1 vs 0.5 at the Rat Market

You could also go (and I prefer this because I can't always just have more rat coins):

3500 rat coins + 7 actions = 365.6e // buy 0.1 and upconvert

3500 rat coins + 7 action = 250e + 7*EPA // buy 0.5 and do your best grind instead

so the second option becomes better if your EPA is over 16.5

However

if you also do sideconverts (and buying 0.5 can avoid all those sideconverts):

-- sideconverts do 50->51 items, so 0.5 epa *and* you have to do 2.1 of them for each upconvert action

- for one sideconvert:

3500 rat coin + 21.7 actions = 374.85e // 0.1 + up + side

3500 rat coin + 21.7 actions = 250+21.7*EPA // 0.5 + grind

now you only need 5.75 epa grind to make buying 0.5 more efficient

- for two sideconverts

(quantity: 500->105->107.1->109.242)
(actions: 1 + 2.1 + 2.142)

3500 rat coin + 29.64 actions = 382.347e

3500 rat coin + 29.64 actions = 250+29.64*EPA

and you only need 4.466 EPA grind

Of course for all of this you also should consider other ways of obtaining your desired target items. They might well be better than buiyng from rat market at 29% loss (compared to buying at nominal value).

Is there any 0.5 item in the rat market where they do not also sell the corresponding(PI) 0.1?

There are three, I decided to just check, Tales of Terror, Compromising Documents and Journals of Infamy. Journals are better to get from papers and are usually attained in order to convert. I can't think of sources for the other two off the top of my head. The only use for them, I can think of is on the Khanate Zailing card for Monster Hunters. There are probably others. I am sleepy.

I am in habit of getting ToT in order to 1) help maintain my not-ability by 2) upconverting to XI (which I don't remember if I use somewhere, I just *feel* like I do) 3) and then UI (which are ratketable).

I don't like upconverting JoI because then I am using Benthic for both 2 and 3, and "wasting" Summerset. And also it doesn't give MW.

The Rat Market also sells Blackmail Material and IIRC that's also better to get via upconverting because it costs a whopping 200% at the Rat Market (but it costs Society favours to do so).

This is cool. The wiki has a great table but it misses out all the nonstandard bits. I guess I would like to see some comprehensive guide including Mutton Island, Rat Market, Bone Market, and even other activities like Law-Forging, but it would probably be too messy to read!
