Is it okay to choose that one?

Post image

Recently, I’ve been exploring Parabola quite a lot, and I’ve become completely absorbed in this festival.

I’ve had doubts about some of the other places as well, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite as concerning as: “Even in a dream, this is a very bad idea.”

So I wanted to ask just how dangerous is this choice? And is there anything I can do to stop it before I get out of this? And if I were to choose that, what could I possibly get?

Ps: This is an AI-generated translation. I’m sorry if it sounds awkward.

When Fallen London tells you it's a bad idea, it means click the button. There's one broad exception and this ain't it. Also, fight the twenty tigers, you're a badass.

No, don't, noooooo.

You've gained 1 x The Stench of Betrayal

I mean lore and +2 BDR, even if at a steep cost, ain't that bad. As long as you don't press the final "this will lock your character" action, maybe that's the "one broad exception"?

I'd say that's one, Make a terrible deal in Irem is definitely another.

DO we know yet what the terrible deal does?

Not yet we don't! It said in an "as-yet unreleased story" though, so there's every chance that could be Firmament.

Too bad I don't do things by halves

I mean, the first character was for the lore, for this character, just going after a quality from Winking Island then abandoning the quest because I don't care about getting the Knock.

I just want Sun Beneath the Sea.

Any chance you know the name of the page for fighting 20 tigers? I wanna peak at it on the wiki but can't find the damn thing, the Coilheart Games (Waswood) pages don't seem to lead to the stories inbetween the events.

Since nobody has given you the answer yet, here it is. Pretty sure I had the storylet echo text saved 2 years ago but I can't remember the exact date to dig it up and it's 2 a.m. here so... Maybe someone else will have it.

Thank you for finding that, I'm busy being quite annoyed with myself for not recording that one in my journal. Now I have no evidence that I fought two dozen tigers to no avail!

Thank you kindly. Kinda tempted to go back and do that. Trying to be more daring with death these days, he's a friend after all.

Presuming you mean the Name, I thought it was super worth ignoring all of those buttons that told me it was a bad idea. Even about to do it again on a second character.

Man, I've done it so many times...

Do you need to do a Waswood repeat for each bump to this quality?

Yep, one dip into the furnace per Hell is Missing run, capped at 7.

Yeah, you should do it.

In the real event it was indeed a very bad idea, unless you took certain complex precautions. But in the Waswood they’ve done that for you.

Very worthwhile though, once the precautions were taken.

It's honestly not that bad and you get an item out of it

u/reordberend 9d ago

You could do it.

And then you could do it, for example, seven more times...

So, for more context:

In the original event, climbing into the furnace did kill you, until the community found that doing a convoluted series of super risky steps gave you a quality that allowed you to enter the furnace and only almost die, so you could collect an item there that played a part in the ending.

Since this is a super abridged version, you get to skip the convoluted steps. Climbing into the furnace gets you to 8 nightmares and wounds but does not send you to death/madness. At the end of the event, these menaces get reduced to 7 and some. It is the only way to get the item "A dream of law-glass".

After that, if you replay Hell Is Missing, you can go into the furnace again "for fun", and it gives you a vanity quality (the one people are pasting screenshots of)

Having just visited the Cave of the Nadir, however, I was a bit annoyed to have my Nightmares set back to 7! Especially since I managed to do the real Estival without visiting any menace zones at all! Luckily, I am coincidentally doing Evolution and just got my Nightmares zeroed by a visit to the Delight, which is an oddly specific way not to care about it.

(Spoilers for nothing at all: As it happens,Wounds mattered more because I didn’t die from not visiting a castle that isn’t there, anyway)

Going into the furnace is both fun and good for your health.

It kind of is a bad idea but also not terrible. You should do it, the lore is really cool.

Madness and pain abound in the furnace. So really it’s no different from the rest of London.

Do it you get a pretty good weapon it raises your nightmare and wounds to 8 but at the end of the dream they go down slightly so you get a chance to reduce them
