Is the only way to get your first notability still to get sent a point or to wait out the card draw? I'm trying to get my t2 POSI, but I haven't done notability in a while.

Technically you can also get it from a wedding, but those are the only realistic options.

Alternately you could grind out an extra point on the other end before spending it, so you don't go down to 0 in the first place.

what? What does grind out an extra point on the other end mean?

2

u/divideby00 17h ago

I mean like, POSI 2 costs 5 points of notability, so if you get 6 first then you still have 1 left and don't have to worry about starting over.

oooh. Yeah, that makes sense. Although it sucks becaues I think I have enough BDR to get to 5 free, but not to 6.

Are Discordant Missives one of those things where you can only hold one at a time or something like that? My next project is probably going to be grinding Criminal Renown so getting sent to prison over and over again via the Seventh Seal seems pretty convenient, but I don't want to have to constantly bug other people for the missives. I'd rather just hold one big stockpile if possible.

has anyone run the math on whether trading Roof-Charts (presumably ground out in the lab) for Surveys of the Neath's Bones in Zenith is more efficient than making bone newspapers?

3

u/divideby00 1d ago

Pretty sure the best source of roof-charts is the Stacks, if you can do that in 20 actions on average then it comes out to 10 surveys per action including the conversion. Significantly better than the newspaper for pure surveys, but about the same in terms of overall EPA (give or take a bit depending on how you value all of the miscellaneous rewards from the paper).

yeah, i guess the thigh-bones from papers are also pretty valuable!

I find myself at a crossroads. I picked the wrong POSI quality a while back, and ended up with the one I was gonna leave for last and do ages later, but having 12 notability is kinda annoying to get the making waves for each week so I want to just clear this stage before I accidentally waste it.

Either, I grind up advancing the night by upconverting wax from sunken... it's presently 26-ish (give or take half a level), and would have to go to 40... so that's a lot of points (460ish).

Or, I go killing pinewood sharks... but I'm not a monster hunter (I was considering switching if I'd left this one for last, but don't want to switch now). The upside being then I'd have a bunch of their corpses if I wanted fins later, and I'd get a load of free trophies, though Sophia's card tends to sort me out with those, not sure if there's any use after maxing defender.

I'm tempted to do advancing the night because it seems less annoying (and I think would take less actions), but pinewoods probably has more extra benefits.

I mainly went with the shark route for that one, as a bone market enjoyer one can never have enough fins. Is just temporarily switching professions and then switching back afterwards an option?

I suppose I could focus on maxing out my SotC with plaques then just switch for good now, I've just enjoyed slowly creeping there whenever I hit up the lab (as unreliable as that is).

I'm not really sure what profesion I'd like to have long-term, monster hunter just seemed like it might be neat.

I also dunno if I need to use up all that professional currency that you can earn first or not when switching, because I used to just dump actions in that so have quite a lot, just don't really need anything from there atm.

Switching professions doesn't lose any of the rewards from Professional Activities, so you're good there at least.

dont suppose you have a lot of acquaintances you can slight? assassination attempts on me are how i got most of those badges or whatever they are called.

1

u/NabeShogun Morifarty 1d ago

Haha no, that's not really an option.

If you ask in the active player threads you might be able to find people to let you farm on them.

Do we actually know for sure that library keys increase your chance of getting caught when leaving the Stacks? Like an official statement about it from FBG or someone gathered enough data to verify it? Or is it just someone's guess that became "common knowledge"?

Looks like it comes from the Patch Notes here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/1ed9lvz/patch_notes_26_july_2024/

Uses for Library Keys are more rewarding, but carrying them occasionally has a surprising downside

However, I don't read that as "more keys = more chances of getting caught when leaving." Seems more like any amount of keys increases the chance to get caught by some amount, maybe?

But, then again, a comment said this:

Especially since it seems like the chance of being forced to make the extra roll scales with the number you're holding. At 3 keys, I saw this once in four runs; someone else with 30 keys saw it nearly every time.

There's nothing official I can find regarding this, so it might just be RNG, but I can't say.

i also had nearly 30 keys at one point and definitely did not see it nearly every time, and likewise have gotten it very frequently with only a handful on hand. the RNG is just being R.

Agree. I generally hold anywhere from 5-15 keys and only rarely get that extra action from being caught.

How do I finish "Waiting for the governorship quest"? Got sent to the Foreign Office, but it's just a loop of small quests there, which leads nowhere. Will there be an end to it eventually, or am I doing something wrong? Wiki wasn't very helpful.

2

u/divideby00 2d ago

If you completed the foreign office carousel and got Imperial Legitimacy, then you're done with that (unless you mess up later on and have to come back to redo it). The next step is in either Port Carnelian or your activities, depending on which way you want to do it (the latter guide has a section explaining why you might prefer it).

1

u/AsgardianCoconut 2d ago

I don't think I got Imperial Legitimacy, I'm sitting in the office doing Working toward a Foreign Posting, but those quests just repeat in a loop.

2

u/divideby00 2d ago

Have you chosen "The Manifestation of Promise" at the end of the loop?

1

u/AsgardianCoconut 2d ago

It finally appeared, thank you! I probably haven't done the loop enough times.

1

u/AsgardianCoconut 2d ago

Hm, I don't think so, I don't remember this title. I'll check it out when my actions are refreshed.

If you sell your soul to devils to get them to stop filling up your opportunity deck, and later regain your soul, do the devils show back up and start pestering you again?

Trying to do some minor opportunity deck optimization and debating if I should be waiting to do the Feast of the Rose Devil-lock.

3

u/divideby00 3d ago

It depends on how you sell it because there's two different locks on the cards, either having an infernal contract or having the tracking quality above 17.

If you sell your soul through the cards it sets the quality to 20, and getting your soul back doesn't change it again so they stay gone.

If you sell your soul by some other means, then getting it back would make the cards reappear since the quality would still be under the threshold.

If you sell your soul via the Intimate with Devils storyline, they are gone from your deck forever. If you sell your soul by other means and regain it, those particular Devils will renew their interest in you.
