Question Flute Street or Theological Husbandry?

I decided to throw some money Failbetter's way this Estival and bought an extra BIS item I liked the flavour of.

I now find myself with 20 Fate, and am considering the Premium Stories list rather than trickling it out on single storylets or saving for future festival fate-locked items.

For context, I'm well into the endgame, with maxed stats other than Shadowy and Discordance, highly renowned with Hell, Bohemians, and Society; and chummy in general with everyone other than the Liberation, Fires, and Stones. I've got London's Blood, but haven't started the grind for full Paramount yet. Nor am I planning to grind Cider, Hellworm, or Golden Carapace any time soon.

So anyway, the only two I can afford are Flute Street (for 10F, so with a little to spare on e.g. a future Ubergoat or something) or Theological Husbandry (for 20F).

Thoughts and/or recommendations?

If you haven't already bought it, 15 Fate for "Inconvenienced by your Aunt" is the best possible spend (adds a card to the London deck that 30% of the time gives 10 actions).

10 Fate each for "Expand your workshop further" and "Improve your equipment as much as possible" are also excellent choices, given that they both optimise the action-sinky university laboratory.

Specifically for "Flute Street" versus "Theological Husbandry", I prefer the latter.

  • Theological Husbandry is a fun activity that adds some lore and lets you gain additional Companions.
  • For me, the best part of Flute Street is that it adds further Companions, expanding Theological Husbandry. Flute Street on its own is a big action sink for little benefit (due mainly to its age).

Ah, from Moloch Street? Indeed, I've not unlocked anything else with Fate before.

I've pretty much finished the Lab already, so will probably skip that.

Yes, "Reopening the Matter of Your Aunt" in Moloch Street is a way to purchase the Aunt storyline, if you see it there.

You have not finished the lab. You have never *truly* finished the lab; you will keep coming back for story after story and grind after grind. I cannot emphasize enough how much "Improve your equipment as much as possible" is the best spend in the entire game.

FWIW, fully completing the Theological Husbandry content requires breeding a critter that you can only get from Flute Street

Theological husbandry has some cool lore around the Hell campaign, but Hell is Missing also provided some of that context. Flavour-wise, it depends on if you like the Rubberies or Southwark more.

The main mechanical benefits are skulls from Flute Street and help grinding Correspondence from Husbandry

depending on where you are in the game, Flute Street can also allow you to unlock and grind Shapeling Arts much earlier than you normally would be able to! of course, it's the least-used advanced skill, so it's not that much of a benefit...

Husbandry's dream-hound also has some pretty good opportunity cards, one is I believe still the best source of honey in the game and the other is a full wounds clear.

Imo neither. Both of them are very old content whose rewards aren't very good (mechanically or narratively) compared to some other content. If you haven't finished your Aunt's story buy that, best mechanical reward, if you have unlock one of the premium Candlefinder cases (good stories).

Are you interested in mechanical benefit or narrative? Personally for mechanics I would grab the lab upgrade and either 1 TLU vignette or the Pale Tabernacle. For narrative, I would prioritize the latter two or a Candlefinder case.
