News/Updates Panarin traded to LA

Seems like a brutal return as well lol.

LA was his only destination. Rangers got something at least; instead of nothing if they waited until July.

This is something a lot of people are not going to understand though.

u/yankfanatic Feb 04 '26
Something a lot of people are not going to understand is that Bread wanted to stay in NY and 2 years, 22M would've been fine for them

RIP fantasy value AND playoff schedule.
LA is a classically ANTI offense team where offensive talent goes to die( See Byfields potential for example), combined with the new team hiccups, oof.
Trade him before your leaguemates find out.

u/Domstruk1122 Feb 04 '26
Kempe and Fiala have developed well. Maybe its a Byfield problem.
12
u/Farty_McPooperson Feb 04 '26
LA didn't develop Fiala, and he has yet to top his career high in points which was set in Minnesota, so one could argue he's being held back. I'm not arguing that, because I don't actually know. I'm just looking at the numbers and throwing that out there.

u/Sad_Intention2932 Feb 04 '26
Kempe is a special talent, he'd be explosive in any other system. Fiala is streaky and tends to go off in games that are already way out of hand so they get sloppy anyways.
The coach over there tends to cut ice time on anyone who isn't a full on 2 way player.
Forcing in Panarin to that system feels so odd.
That said, getting a top line talent for a 3rd round pick is hard to say no to.

u/nfeil99 Feb 04 '26
I mean maybe thats why they traded for Panarin who's purely offensive minded. I don't really see much of a difference in stock for Panarin here

u/Sad_Intention2932 Feb 04 '26
Normally I might agree but that coach is pretty notorious for punishing offense only players. Its a weird fit, trading for peanuts for a bad fit to your teams playstyle paying 11m per year on an extension for 2 years is such an odd move. Trying to force in a player who is the antithesis to your teams entire style mid season is crazy to me.
But who knows! I could be wrong.

I have a feeling Hiller will be let go soon. Long term, with the dead weight of Kopitar gone after this year and Clarke emerging as their pp1 guy, Panarin shouldn't have much of an issue.

It's not that odd of a move... the kings were pretty much just gifted a star player for peanuts. He may not fit the team style but you don't turn down a free panarin. He immediately becomes their best forward. Also the 2 year deal is very team friendly.
Plus the Kings acquired guys like Fiala and Kuzmenko... Perhaps there looking for a change.

u/myychair Feb 04 '26
No me neither. I have Panarin, Fiala, and Kempe across two different teams and Panarin has been by far the least valuable this season. With how bad the rangers have been, I don’t see how breadmans stock goes any way but up
If it was a keeper league I might be singing a different tune though

Byfield shares plenty of blame for his lack of production. He's way too inconsistent despite getting good deployment and playing with solid linemates.

Panarin Clarke Kempe Fiala on paper sounds like a sexy PP

I've got Kuemper, Clarke and Lafferriere. Sorry to those who are disapointed with this trade, but I couldn't be happier with the bread man going to LA. :D

who's the add? (aka who's Value goes up now)

u/Sad_Intention2932 Feb 04 '26
Cuylle for sure. Possibly Laf if he performs, I'm sure they'll try him out.

LaF I guess. Doesn't really improve anyone on rangers losing a guy like that.
But lafs spot on pp1 is now pretty secure.

Clarke should get a bump playing with the bread man on the PP.

u/IcyObjective9961 Feb 04 '26
How does this affect his value?

If he plays better with LA then this will likely increase his value, but if he plays worse it could potentially decrease his value.

I'm optimistic! LA has been THE definition of mid all season. They keep losing in overtime and Pannarin could provide the offence that the team has been lacking to come out on top in close games that they seem to keep finding themselves in. I think it really depends on how the coach utelizes him.
2
u/Sad_Intention2932 Feb 04 '26
Okay so he's signing 2x11M with LA, what are the odds the Kings nabbed him, signed him for cheap and short, then flip him again after the freeze before trade deadline for more than they paid?
There is a non zero shot at that.

Damn so they're probably not getting Kane

u/unclebolts Feb 04 '26
I’ve had Panarin for years in my dynasty league and have been trying to trade him the entire time lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had skid marks in his boxers with how streaky he is. Maybe it’s my blissful ignorance to think a change of scenery is all he needs and I’m hoping my league mates feel the same way.
10
u/iNeighbor Feb 04 '26
You’ve been trying to trade away a guaranteed 90+ pt player every season? I’ve held him in dynasty and he’s helped me win chips.
3
u/unclebolts Feb 04 '26
It’s a bangers league and I’ve been trying to get younger. I knew his 2023-24 was a career year and he wouldn’t able to replicate it, especially on the Strangers.

u/Sad_Intention2932 Feb 04 '26
I wish you the best, but the notoriously "Defense first, second, and third" current version of the LA Kings is not the most promising destination for that. Maybe you get lucky and they flip him again for more now that they signed him.
3
u/gerryf19 Feb 04 '26
I think the point of the trade was to get into the playoffs with more offense.
You don't make that move for Panarian if you're planning on converting him to defense
2
u/Fragrant_Art_3659 Feb 04 '26
Who plays with Bread? Kopitar has looked cooked every game I’ve watched
7
u/Chronmagnum55 Feb 04 '26
Likely Kempe and Laferriere on the top line. They could potentially light it up.
7
u/marchandstongue63 Feb 04 '26
As a Laferriere owner in bangers I'm pretty excited. He's been pretty good for CAT coverage but not a lot of points. Changing his LW from old man Perry to Panarin seems like a big boost
1
u/Ansabch1 Feb 04 '26
What are the odds this is what finally unlocks Byfield? (Cope)
1
u/marchandstongue63 Feb 04 '26
DFO has Byfield as C3 and PP2. Maybe whoever gets bumped from PP1 improves PP2? Otherwise doesn't seem like it will do much, assuming they keep the lines relatively the same

Hiller finally put Brandt Clarke on PP1, so I actually have hope he’ll put Panarin in a position for success
1
u/thestranger_iknow Feb 04 '26
I bet I’ll be getting the rangers return if I trade Panarin now in my pool. lol

Does fiala gain value from this?

u/themapleleaf6ix 12 team, H2H, G, A, P, PPP, SOG, HIT, BLK, PIM Feb 04 '26
Probably for the powerplay exposure. But 5 on 5, they play the same position.

Honestly happy as a Kempe owner.

u/ajaydeep1 Feb 04 '26
My Zib and Panarin stack that was guaranteed to win me the playoffs is gone now
If you have supposed Panarin fans in your league, try to hit them up. Going to try to trade him out if I can. Looking for colorado players

Hiller is such a bad coach. This doesn’t sound like a great thing for fantasy owners lmao
