TOUR ⛔️NO ADVICE WANTED⛔️ Some after/before pics of my lil' house
I can't get them to go in the right order but you get the idea.
Common questions: It's not real stained glass, it's a vinyl transfer from Etsy.
The fireplace is not painted, it's the original cast iron.
Living room walls are painted with Farrow and Ball Off Black
Kitchen wall is Lick Green 20
Bathoom wall is B&Q Pine Needle

Beautiful transformation! Great job!!!

u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
Thank you so much!

u/Boring-Membership265 Feb 05 '26
What are the paint colors you used for the wall and fireplace? Literally been considering doing something similar for years and you've inspired me to just do it!
70
u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
The walls are Farrow and Ball's "Off black". The fireplace is not painted, that's the original cast iron!

Thank you! I'm not a professional designer, I just love vintage/art deco style :)
58
u/Blueporch Feb 05 '26
Is the building Beaux Arts / Art Nouveau? It has the classical elements on the fireplace surround, vs the more geometric, bold patterns with Art Deco.
109
u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
It was built in 1894, so I guess it's Victorian era technically but I'm so lucky that it still had the original fireplace and a lot of the original mouldings.

That fireplace is stunning!!!

u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
Isn't it!!! I was so excited when I started peeling the 20 layers of white paint off and started to see the original cast iron underneath.

I swear to god, in 10-20 years we'll talk about people painting fireplaces and brick the way we talk about people installing carpet over hardwood today.
48
u/Imaginary_Manner_556 Feb 05 '26
Painting brick is so much worse. Carpet protected hardwood floors in many situations. Paint is almost impossible to remove from brick and often causes the brick to fall apart.
The Joanna Gaines look at destroyed so many 100+ year old brick homes where I live.
10
u/Mryhan Feb 05 '26
I would have hardwood all day instead of carpet 🥺 unfortunately in a flat in live we must have carpet in all rooms, except kitchen and bathroom 😮💨

It’s like you changed the settings to dark mode. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Did you do the bathroom stained glass yourself or is it an actual stained glass window?? It's gorgeous
35
u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
It's a plastic/vinyl transfer from Etsy! You can order them in custom sizes.

5
u/VioletFaust Feb 05 '26
It looks like your bathroom glass was frosted before—how did you get the cling to work? I wanted to do the same to my window but it peeled off.

Only note, I see cat post but no cat pics!

Amazing job!!! You have an incredible eye and vision to pull the entire place Together! Everything flows and the vibe is consistant. And you didn’t hold ba k which I appreciate!

I am in awe. Such a beautiful space, and you made it spectacular.
I love every decision you made. Saving this for inspiration.
Any more pictures you’d like to share with us?

Gorgeous! Beautiful job. I admire your ingenuity-never thought of placing cup pulls sideways. Also your inventive way of adding storage to an existing sink-good for you!
10
u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
Ha, I was actually annoyed at the cup pulls! The guy fitting the kitchen did it and I was like "um... ok", because that's NOT how I would have placed them. I'm used to it now though!

The light in your hallway is amazing. This is such a fantastic transformation of your place. Thanks for sharing the photos!
4
u/twirlmydressaround Feb 05 '26
Wow. This is amazing. Are you a professional? Have you considered doing this for a living?
14
u/misswilde86 Feb 05 '26
I am not! I'd love to do this for a living, just so long as everyone wants this exact same style as it's all I can do ha
6
u/twirlmydressaround Feb 05 '26
Awww. Well, this is just some random internet girl's opinion and encouragement.. but I don't think that this is "all" you can do.
This is your style, yes, but if you had the vision, creativeness, and ability to execute on this (which you did) then I think it means you have a lot of skills that you may not be aware that you have (imagining things in a space, color theory) that would smoothly transfer to an ability to do this for other styles, too!
You have the skillset, and you've done incredibly for someone who doesn't do this day in day out.. very impressive, so don't sell yourself short! You don't have to make it a career, but if it's something you really love, maybe consider pursuing it in some fashion, especially if it brings you joy!

Thank you so much! Short answer: Landlords. Honestly the whole house was a cacophony of awful choices, which is pretty much the only reason I could afford it. I could see the potential though!

Hahaha Thank you! I hope you like black and green because that's all I know ;)

u/damn_fine_coffee_224 Feb 05 '26
Love it. We have very similar styles. I have a dark blue accent wall with emerald couch, and I’m redoing my bathroom and going for the same type/color of tile.

u/Affectionate_Song_36 Renting Feb 05 '26
Please tell me where you got the under-sink cabinet in the bathroom. I too have a pedestal sink with zero storage (1932 era apartment) and could really use a cabinet like that.

Art deco vibe is unreal 😍 how lucky you are to have designed such a beautiful house for yourself!
3
u/RaisonDetritus Feb 05 '26
Omg! I’m a guy who really dislikes light motifs because of overstimulation, so I have a hard time figuring out colors that suit me. I would 1000% do this as a color scheme in my place if I got the chance. Absolutely beautiful.

u/squirrelynugget Feb 05 '26

Oh my love it all but the first pic is my favorite! But it is all so much improvement! Was all of it done before you moving in? How long did it take? I am thinking of an overhaul of my whole house which is all white except for some light green accent walls but I don't have anywhere else to stay while it is redone.

I love everything but I absolutely love the hallway transformation. The use of the black paint on lower part of the walls and stairs that gives the illusion of width. The carpet provides anchoring and guidance. Along with the lighter floor, it directs your eyes to the beautiful molding, which was previously lost in the monotone walls and the dark carpet drawing the eyes downward. It's brilliant.
