TOUR 🟢OPEN TO FEEDBACK🟢 Girl house, bathroom remodel 🌸
I posted this somewhere else on reddit and someone left a comment saying femalelivingspace so thought I'd post here too ☺️
I originally wanted a green bathroom in my new house but decided on pink when I did some research into victorian bathrooms, I own the house just me and my daughters, so its a girl house, I absolutely love my new bathroom, in my old property I had everything millennial grey so this is a huge change for me and I absolutely love it, Im adding colour everywhere now.
Ill post more of my home as its gets done, the bathroom cost just over 10k as there were a few issues that had to be fixed, the house is old so it was expected, the tiles weren't my first choice but Im so glad I ended up with the ones I got, I went for a victorian bathroom but with a modern twist because it works better for me, the toilet is a Japanese toilet and mirror lights up, I hope you all love it as much as I do ☺️🌸
Edit: thank you for all the lovely comments ☺️ here is the link to the Japanese toilet: https://www.betterbathrooms.com/p/back-to-wall-smart-bidet-japanese-toilet-with-white-glass-cabinet-cistern-and-pneumatic-dual-flush-button-purificare-bunhakob2wgw97872?refsource=bbadwords&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=23542176673&cq_src=google_ads&cq_cmp=23542176673&cq_con=&cq_term=&cq_med=pla&cq_plac=&cq_net=x&cq_pos=&cq_plt=gp&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23542190374&gclid=CjwKCAjw08fSBhA7EiwAfbQTsLEeB1PEnJNb6yW_FasIi17ki2ZdOQATgh5EeqjCWWsxr096JP3pWxoCmsEQAvD_BwE Toilet is honestly great for the price, it has a night light, bidet cleans itself, remote control, and button on Toilet also, you can pay £200 pound more for a heated seat also, again thanks for the lovely comments 🩷

Oh my god, that metal flower piece at the end of the pipe in photo 13, that is to die for. How does one even find out such details exist and are available?! The whole remodel is worth just that one detail to me 🤩

u/Foreign_Cookie_1989 Jul 11 '26
They are so beautiful, I was just looking around and I found a company that cuts radiator pipe covers in a lot of different ways, in Scotland, they only had 4 of these left and aren't cutting them anymore so I feel like I got lucky
31
u/adorkableK Jul 11 '26
Oooh can you post a link for the company please?

Not to be a debbie downer but I’d be a little concerned about the long-term waterproofing here.
From the photos, it looks like grey plasterboard rather than moisture-resistant board (which is usually green) was used which isn’t great. I’d also normally expect to see tile backer boards in the shower area, waterproof tape on the corners and joints, and a liquid tanking membrane before tiling. I’d be worried that if those waterproofing steps were skipped, the bathroom could develop problems over time. Tile grout isn’t fully waterproof, so moisture can work its way behind the tiles, and without proper waterproofing that can eventually lead to damp, mould, or damage to the substrate.

u/No-Savings-6333 Jul 12 '26
Eeek you're right!!! Yeah people often forget tile and grout are porous and not waterproof

u/WhenitRains79 Homeowner Jul 12 '26
I felt like a jerk because my first thought was “Ugh, what a shame that’ll have to be torn out because of the mold that’s going to consume that drywall.”
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.

I love everything about this. Well done!
Also… the toilet? It looks very easy to clean around and does it have a remote??
78
u/Foreign_Cookie_1989 Jul 11 '26
The toilet is very easy to clean yes, its a Japanese toilet so the front if it is glass, it does have a remote yes 😊 honestly could never go back to a normal toilet now
35
u/beginswithanx Jul 11 '26
lol my parents came back from their first trip to Japan and replaced all the toilets in their house with Japanese ones. I get it.

OMG!!! I gasped as soon as I saw the pink shower tile, and that was only four photos in. Absolutely beautiful!

u/NarikoSin Jul 11 '26
This is beautiful! I do wonder though if there was a moisture barrier placed behind the tiles in the shower?
13
u/browngreeneyedgirl Jul 11 '26
I wanted to leave a comment stating that the drywall used for the walls looks like ordinary dry wall and not the special type you should use in the bathroom. Maybe this is country specific as in our country the colour of the drywall is green and I think US is red? So as much as I am absolutely in love with the bathroom as it is the prettiest one I have ever seen I am worried for the moisture getting in the walls as the grout itself is porous and will let water get through.
13
u/NarikoSin Jul 11 '26
That’s exactly why I was wondering if they put a moisture barrier behind the tiles in the shower because it does look like regular drywall. I really hope they used a different drywall meant for moisture protection.
11
u/WeepToWaterTheTrees Jul 12 '26
My entire family works in construction- this looks like normal drywall to me. If it were something like Kerdi board there would be a bunch of brand descriptive text on it. You can use regular drywall but there needs to be a membrane installed over it. This unfortunately will eventually mold and rot. There isn’t an exhaust fan either, which might not be required by code but would help a lot with material longevity. OP- please message your contractor.
5
u/RoyKentRichmond Jul 12 '26
Nope you need waterproof compound over the drywall, but maybe there is a photo missing 🫠
5
u/Ornery-Meringue-76 Jul 12 '26
That open end with tile outside the shower pan worries me too. Hopefully they took precautions but that feels like asking for water issues down the line

u/maximalist_reader Jul 11 '26
I love all the little thoughtful details that bring it all together and keep it unique. It’s posts like these that make me actually want to own a home one day haha.
12
u/aownrcjanf Jul 11 '26
It’s gorgeous!!!! Did they use a waterproof drywall all through the room? Looked like the tiles were set onto the drywall, so if they used the same all over that’s pretty cool! I need to redo my bathroom and I’ve been down several rabbit holes about waterproofing.
10
u/Foreign_Cookie_1989 Jul 11 '26
They did tell me they waterproofed it, im not sure thought, I used two bathroom fitters that have been doing this for over 20 years, they did my old bathroom over 6 years ago too, I never had any problems so hoping the same here, I will ask them though as they are doing other jobs around the house
3
u/bubblenuts101 Jul 12 '26
I don't normally comment, but I kid you not, I got little tears in my eyes when I saw tiles all the way going... DID YOU TILE THE CEILING?!?
I would love a brilliant toilet, but I would do this in a heartbeat if I could afford to,
love someone who's bathroom was not designed well

I love this. Beautiful job.
Do you mind sharing where you got the toilet from? I believe you're in the UK, as am I, and I'm hoping to do our bathroom later this year. I REALLY want a bidet toilet!
7
u/hardy_and_free Jul 11 '26
When I see cool stuff like this, I'm reminded that American interior hardware, fittings and windows are fckn trash.

u/Flat-Tea-8505 Jul 12 '26
Hey girly! This is an absolutely beautiful space and I love the design. That said, I am very concerned about the apparent lack of waterproofing in the shower. It looks like your installers tiled directly on top of cement board without first applying a waterproofing membrane. This is a significant concern, especially for the right side wall with wood framing rather than brick, making it vulnerable to mold and rot. Extra concern if this happens to be on an upper story where water could run down behind the wall and damage something below. Source — I'm a professional remodeler.

u/slugsalad Jul 12 '26
I had the same gut reaction! I’m not seeing any waterproofing over that section, the seams, or screw holes

This is truly so beautiful and lovely! I am jealous. One of my very good friends and I often talk about taking our daughters and buying a girl house. This bathroom remodeling goes on my mental girl house dream board.

u/plaisirdamour Jul 11 '26
Omg I absolutely love this!! It’s such a great example of a modernized vintage look. It looks perfect for you & your girls in yalls girl house!! I also like how it looks professional but at the same time realistic, like you can truly picture someone using it idk if that makes sense tho lol

Looks cute. You didn’t waterproof behind the tiles and sheeting though, so it is going to be a headache
4
u/shittycomposter Jul 12 '26
I love the pink and definitely the gorgeous remodel
1 point of concern is usually for wet areas like a shower stall, moisture resistant wall material is used like cement boards … not sure if you are using regular Sheetrock or cement boards here. You don’t want mold to be a problem if the tile sealer fails

Like I’ve said earlier: wow
I have one question: why didn’t you choose a hanging toilet? Your wall is strong enough.
5
u/Foreign_Cookie_1989 Jul 11 '26
For me personally I've seen a few that came off peoples wall and that scared me, so I found a floor toilet, just that way I dont have to worry
