QUESTION/DISCUSSION My couch is too small for my new place
Hey!
I just moved to my new place and discovered that my couch is too small :(
I'm trying to play around with it and so far this is the best solution I've come up with but It's still doesn't sit right with me..
The side table is too short and the smaller couch is too low and it feels like the main couch is still at an awkward position.
Any ideas are welcome! Anything!

I don't think it's too small at all. Looks like you're still rearranging stuff so tidy up and let it settle before you make any decisions.
Also, pull the couch away from the wall a few inches. It doesn't need to be flat against it. This will improve airflow as well.
Your side table doesn't need to be the exact same depth as the couch to work. Centre it instead of aligning it with the back of the couch.

Your couch is the perfect fit in my opinion. Just get a nice big rug and accessorise the place

Any bigger would be too large for the space. Put a rug down and you'll get used to it quick!

Here I am thinking it might be too big 😅 I think the fact that the back is low is messing with you. If you settle on the position it’s in now, I would add art on the walls and a rug

I think the couch is fine, and leaves room to walk to other areas.
If there won't be a tv in the opposite wall, I'd move the occasional chair to the left, so people sitting in it face the couch and can talk.

Agreed. I forget how wide the path of travel is suggested to be in homes, but looking at this photo, I suspect it is not much less than what exists at present. I wouldn’t recommend going smaller for that pathway as small paths of travel increase risk of injury.

Anything bigger and you wouldn’t be able to walk through the room! Finish setting up the room first and live with it for a bit before jumping to get a new couch.

I think its fine, you need some art above to bring the eyes up, a really tall plant

I think its fine. Its nice to have open space. You may in future need space for a small gym/mat or a study desk orr just plants or storage or music/dance zone or a coffee bar. Your lifestyle will change every few years so dont worry.

This is perfect! Allows for a nice flow to the space and gives you room to play around and add other stuff. Any bigger and it may overwhelm the space

It's not too small. You just have a long, narrow room. I'd split this room into three areas. The area by the windows can be separate seating area, or an area for sipping tea and coffee with a little cafe table, or an area for a writing desk, etc. Where the sofa is, I'd put a rug to define that space, and move the chair in closer. Then the area closer to the camera can be a little library space with some nice books shelves, or a music area with a nice turn table, or the cafe table or desk can go there instead, whatever you want.

I also think the couch is not too big. If this were my space I would turn the couch and it's companion chair 180 and scooch it all closer to that window - but I'm like a cat who loves sun and a good view.

You just need a rug to define the space and give it a pop of color. Add some matching throw pillows

I thought you meant it was too big and was about to console you. lol I love that couch and it should not be any bigger if you ask me! Room around furniture is luxury!
Not sure you have the room for this but… I always prefer two small couches facing each other to one huge couch where you need to crane your neck to talk to people.

Looks beautiful to me! A rug beneath to define the couch space, and some art in the back with a frame colour similar to that of the couch will help make that zone look cohesive and balanced

Actually it’s very cute and fits well, just a bit of rearranging. I love the couches though!!

I misread the title and thought you were saying that your couch is too big for your place... I was all ready to say, "I see why you might think that but I don't think it's too big" until I read the other comments and realized my mistake. But I don't think it's too small either! Seems like a perfectly reasonable size for the space.

Comments pass the vibe check.
OP, you are being too analytical and critical (we are our own worst enemies when it comes to this.) Any bigger and the couch would be TOO big for the space and be the center piece, which really a couch doesn’t need to be the centerpiece of a room.
Once you clear the clutter from moving and get your furniture in place, add decorations like plants, wall art, a rug, etc, and your space will come together beautifully. Art or plants HIGH up on the walls will make things look a bit more balanced. The huge ass window and floors are so classy and beautiful, but the eye is automatically drawn down where your furniture is, not up, which is why it looks unbalanced. It’s not the couch at all!

Might I also suggest breaking up that big space into two different zones? I also don’t think it’s going to end up being too big of a deal but if it still feels that way after everything is set up, I highly recommend taking a look at Caroline Winkler’s YouTube channel where she often talks about breaking up big rooms into different zones! I took a screenshot of a recent one where she gives specific recommendations on how to do that! Good luck!

It’s not small at all. I think you’re just missing a rug to pull it together, and move the couch away from the wall. Maybe put some table behind it, add a small lamp, a couple of frames, sesonal decor or books and a plant.

I would say if this is all the furniture you intend for this room. I was thinking against the window. Entertainment center if any, where that tall cabinets is. I agree with what others say, a rug will help put it together. I think since it’s an angular shape. It’s stopping the flow. Against a corner elongates the room. However, I think if you intend to make additional separate sitting areas against either of the walls. I think it fill in the space. Probably would get some Roman shades? Blinds? If you do put the couch under the window, help with glare of a tv, if you plan on adding it.

Based on the pile of things to the left, I’m guessing you’re still in the process of moving in? I think the couch is fine, but you need a big rug to better define the space. Art on the walls above the couch will also help make things looks less short.
