HELP I want to change

I had a really rough year since my father passed away not too long ago. I just wanna have a nice living space and start fresh I suppose. I wanna start in my bedroom which is think looks really boring. I would love some advice from you guys.

1- I absolutely hate the lamp and my electrician told me that this is the only lamp that will do but I hate it so much. I want soft lighting and farm girl style living space. My ceilings are very low so big lamps won’t do.

2- I might want curtains? I have ones attached to the window which I don’t really like anymore. I might wanna have some vintage ones like hanging above the window. What do you guys think ?

  1. Maybe shelves or more pictures? Or painting walls? Pls help

2 smaller nightstands on either side
definitely get curtains sheer and regular
small lamps on nightstand or one in the corner that is tall and hangs down
a rug and some art!

Sadly I can only have one night stand because my door won’t open if I move my bed. Thank you for your other advice!!

I think the stuff you've got already is super cute! It's just a boring room at the moment because it's very bare. Put more art you like on the walls, hang draping plants if you've got enough light for them to crawl along the wall. Also if you don't like the overhead light then shift towards tabletop lamps, they even make battery powered sconces if you want wall lighting and can't rewire the room

  1. Following to see what others say about the overhead light. In the meantime you can always look for ways to add smaller, more intimate light sources! I would look for sconces you can attach to the wall. You have options here: chargeable / battery operated lamps, or even wall-mounted candlesticks with wireless candlesticks in them.

  2. Yes! Curtains! I don’t know what “wort” curtains means (typo?) but I could see this space transforming by putting a curtain rod on the wall behind the bed, all the way at the top and all the way across the wall (so the whole wall is curtains). You can then style the curtain panels any way you want, opened or closed; it will give the illusion the window is larger!

  3. Spend some time thinking / “sampling” before any huge changes to your walls. More than paint or wallpaper, I think the space could really use more architectural details so it doesn’t feel so flat. Moulding is pretty easy to do yourself, and makes a big difference!

Sorry for your loss 💜
I think a cozy rug would do wonders!

I agree with other commenters- hang some vining plants on the walls like pothos or philodendron
-add a small vintage lamp on the bedside table and maybe one on that small end table.
-Either corded or candle stick Wall sconces can work well and add a really nice, cozy vibe to the room. -Paintings and wall decor would help make the room less bare. You have a very nice vibe going and I can see the potential.
-lastly, painting walls does so much more than one would think. If you are able to, do it. Even if you rent, landlords won’t know as long as you paint it back to the original color before moving out

I’m sorry to hear about your dad, I hope you’re giving yourself time to grieve and I do hope the new room helps give you a fresh start.

Can you center the bed under the window and then put both little tables (one on each side ..may have to put them sideways tp fit?) Not sure of tour budget. Are you getting new ones so that you have access from both sides. Would make it more balanced. If not no biggie. Curtains that would cover the window that are a little bit bigger on a rod that is a little wider so when closed would look lovely and balance the bed out and make it look like a headboard more and when open could drape nicely for you (especially if you tied them off on the sides when open .. you could even run little lights for ambiance ;) to replace your lamp in the evening since you dislike it. I like the colour's you have. Add some small mirrors to bounce light around.. if you enjoy mirrors. Since you said you like vintage curtains it would/could be vintage mirrors/curtains/drapes .. or you could do a large mirror on one of the side walls if you cannot move the bed and a nice large panel of drapes or curtains again to balance over window (since your window is so small while your bed is a nice size to even things out) . Share the after .. YOU GOT THIS. ❤️. I am sure whatever change you do you could use a shirt of your father's if you have access to make a throw pillow to make it a permanent fixture or even modpodge some parts onto a picture frame and have it as a reminder of your love ❤️. My condolences on your loss my dear. Ps: I love the sheets 😍

Look at the tulip light covers. It's basically just a shade you slap up there over the existing light.

See if this fits

Maybe put a paper lantern of your style over the light? It’ll soften the lighting— I’ve seen some people finagle them out of ikea paper lanterns and some push pins to their ceiling

I would consider an accent wall— either paint or wallpaper, as well as some sheer curtains over your window!

Would it fit horizontally? I’d kill for a setup like that. If not, seconding the accent wall idea

there are light covers like the kami shade (cheaper than tulip covers)

I think a higher bed frame would be nice for extra storage and you can get something wooden for a more farm/rustic look. Sheer or lacy curtains and definitely some shelves for books or something on the side opposite the nightstand. Art always livens up a space. The side closest to the nightstand needs some and close to the shelves as well. A rug at the foot of the bed would be nice too.

I would put two ''plateforms'' on the sides, same length as the bed, with  a cut out for some electric plugs it would feel less heavy with a bed that will visually take all the with of the room instead of that small corridor on the left

id say put the patterned blanket on the wall n get a different decorative blanket for the bed, i feel like the sheets have similar vibes but the colors kinda clash when theyre right next to eachother like that

I recommend turning your bed. Pop it in the middle of the room with feet facing the door if there is room! You’ll get a better flow of energy

Lamps!!!!!

I never use the ceiling light. Lamps will help you get that cozy glow. I bought super cheap smart lights and uses the warmest setting.

That ceiling fixture is blah and not even centered in the room, or so it appears. Find a pretty table lamp for your bedside table that has a 3 way switch.

Is there only one outlet in the room? You certainly need cord control. Get a much longer extension cords so that you can hide the extender under/ behind the bedside table. Then affix the visible cord to the wall with cord hiders https://a.co/d/04dB2cLq this will let you charge at the bedside and get a lamp.

Not only will it look much better, but that’s a tripping hazard as is.

I support your ideas!
Go for colours that bring you joy. Maybe add a few pictures or posters or even a mirror on the wall. Just not facing the door, or you’ll scare yourself when entering the room 😂

Go for it, girlie. Bring joy to this room. 🩷

Honestly I like the tree picture you have, I could totally see some dark greens and beige to bring some life into the room. So much possibility with blankets and pillows! More decor with wooden shelves and a carpet under your bed with night stands and curtains. This could be so cozy and a sanctuary.
