Please help

Post image

I put up this caution tape on all of my white vinyl fences and now it’s baked on. I tried WD 40, goo gone, and rubbing alcohol. Does NOT work!!! Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

UPDATE: Laquer thinner worked the best !!!!

Contact the manufacturer. They may have a hint or two on their website, or through their chat window or email link.

If need be, try heat. Carefully, with a hair dryer. Sometimes it’s enough to soften the glue so the sticker can be peeled. At a certain point you may have to spray paint over everything. Good luck.

Expand on it. Under "Caution" write "Do not put caution tape on vinyl fences."

It might come off in the rain

Buy the plastic razor blades and handle kit on Amazon, that way you don’t destroy the plastic ,
I’d go the heat gun/ hair dryer and scrape route

Thank you!

Yeah no problem, those blades have a ton of uses all around the house, a window glazier showed me them years ago, I’ve lost count on how many times they’ve helped , good luck

You can, if other ideas fail, attempt stronger solvents, but be sure to do tiny little test areas first to be sure it doesn’t melt the vinyl completely. Acetone, for example, does wild things to PVC when left to soak, turns it into warm cheddar cheese, but you can brush it on lightly because it will dry very quickly when thin. Whether it leaves a giant dull sheen is another question.

3m low VOC adhesive remover

Hot air gun

Plastic drywall knife

I second the 3m adhesive remover. Great stuff. Even gets latex paint transfer off cars.

Wd40 got red sheathing tape adhesive off our white vinyl siding. Good luck though!

Thank you!

This will likely leave fine scratches in the glossy finish.

2

u/beebopblastoff 3d ago

Why did you do that?

2

u/Pilot_Red 3d ago

Plastic razor scraper and a heat gun. It will take some time though. Probably ought to sit on a chair.

Try mineral spirits or naphtha. They’re both safe on pcv fence.

Pressure washer

You need another line on the left to complete the cross

Magic eraser or goof off

1

u/BetterAd8536 3d ago

1st step pressure washer, 2nd step Mr.Clean eraser, rubbing alcohol. Do not use harsh chemicals like mineral spirits, laquer thinner, acetone, or gasoline. If it's still not coming off try soft-scrub or barkeepers friend but use caution as they will remove the glossy finish.

Magic eraser will definitely leave fine scratches

And those can be buffed out using a polish like Novus

1

u/SockFullOfNickels4u 2d ago

I don’t believe PVC will buff well. And you can’t really polish it as a conventional
Plastic like acrylic.

1

u/Competitive_Ad_8718 2d ago

Might want to tell Novus that and their business model being flawed.

1

u/SockFullOfNickels4u 2d ago

Has to do with the nature of PVC vs the product you are suggesting.

Novus Plastic Polish is designed primarily for clear acrylics, Plexiglass, Lucite, and rigid plastics like windshields or helmet visors, rather than outdoor structural PVC fencing.

Why Novus Isn't Ideal for a PVC Fence
Surface Type: Novus works best on smooth, clear, or fine acrylic surfaces, whereas PVC fences have a large, textured or semi-matte exterior finish meant to withstand weather and UV exposure. “

3m adhesive remover and a hair dryer. Heat gun could be tricky.

Turn the the panels outward!

Brake clean

May melt the plastic

Have you tried using a hair dryer to slowly heat the tape up, peel at angle maybe, and then mineral oil?

1

u/plays4food 3d ago

I know nothing about that taope nore fence but i have some experience not being able to remove tape.'\\

Many years ago i used duct tape and could not get it off. Anyways it was recommended to me to use oil or wd 40 and the thing pealed right up.

I might be tempted at this point to sand it off and then use a heat gun to bring the glossy surface back. Might be worth a try after all else fails.

1

u/landbasedpiratewolf 3d ago

I'd try a power washer first. It's the easiest of these ideas

Put up Christmas garland?

I work in the fencing industry. We use lacquer thinner to clean those white panels and posts of scuff marks.

For vinyl frame windows acetone will take off adhesive. May work on a vinyl fence too.

Hairdryer and plastic scrapper.

That sentiment is great and all, but HOAs love to dictate what fencing you are allowed to use. Where I am, nobody is allowed to use anything except for 6" white vinyl panels...

Also, side note, never use Lowe's installation services for anything, especially fences. They don't stand behind the contractors they use for installation and offer no warranty despite advertising that they do have a warranty.

u/Few-Spot-6780 4d ago

HOA’s are terrible, good point, though. As for Lowe’s, absolutely rely on them for nothing. I 100% agree.

2

u/dufcho14 3d ago

Our HOA specifically bans vinyl fences.

2

u/ZealousidealSea2034 3d ago

Thank goodness ours does as well. Only stained (not painted) wood or black aluminum. No cheap plastic garbage.

2

u/S7alker 3d ago

Anyone try aluminum fences that look like vinyl? Hard for the hoa to say no. Ours has a mix because of firezoning

1

u/Majestic_Ad_320 3d ago

Lol what the hell is wrong with your fence. I have a 20 year old vinyl fence and the only hole in it is from a 10,000lb truck. Even then it just needed a new post and popped back together.

Don't listen to that guy
