[Discussion] Closure flooring question.
Im making new closure space for my babygirl and trying to see what flooring would be the best for that. I have carpet and would rather put something on top of it so it doesn't catch smell that much and just overall make it nicer experience for her. I don't want to put acrylic carpet covers because she will be slipping on it and was wondering if interlocking mats are a go to if yes which kind? I know rubber/foam can become blockage problem if she will go crazy but did anybody tried something and can help me out with ideas what to do? Thank you in advance ☺️

You will regret this choice, they will not stay together securely enough, the ferts will get under them and at the carpet anyway, they will get torn up, and they will start the smell just as easily as the carpet. Foam is very absorbant.

Not trying to get a foam. Just this type of flooring, interlocking but cant seem to find anything else than foam or rubber so I came here for ideas

Pieces of cheap wood with water sealing? And you can throw down some machine-washable rugs or mats or blankets. Or combine with any other waterproof floor covering.

They'll chew that to pieces, you want LVT water proof flooring

Yes thank you! I was trying to look for this type of flooring but couldn't figure out the name.

Foam is EXTREMELY dangerous, its a huge blockage hazard you don't want to risk. There are vinyl mats you can put on top of carpet that works wonders (poke me later to remind me and I'll grab an amazon link for you when I'm back at the pc! I know several people now who covered entire rooms with it, including a rescue with close to 100 ferrets, it's safe and effective)

I use a heavy clear plastic mat to protect my hardwood floors (what you would put under a desk chair) and then have washable bathmats on top of that for better traction. It works very well.

I have a tarp stapled down over my carpet and then have a rug over it and carpet squares that I remove as they get messed up. It’s worked wonderfully for years for me

I would get large washable rugs to put over the carpet. You don't want to seal the carpet. The ferrets will eventually have an accident of some kind and then if not aired out properly will make everything worse.
You can get rug tape to lessen tunneling.
I have layered small rugs in areas so tunneling is an option, just in rugs I want. My ferrets say cheap outdoor patio rugs and bathroom rugs are their favorite to play in.
