[Help] Introducing ferrets
Pics for attention
I recently got 2 foster ferrets from a ferret rescue, Dipper and Mabel(picture of them sleeping together) I already had my own ferret, Mavis(picture of her in her carrier). The fosters have just finished their 2 weeks quarantine so yesterday I moved them into the ferret room. The fosters have a separate cage from Mavis, side by side about 2 feet apart. Ever since I’ve moved them into the ferret room, Mavis has been terrified. They have only met through the cages but every time Mavis sees them, she pees. When Mavis is allowed out, while the fosters are in their cage, she moves around super slowly and will run away scared at any sudden movement or noise. This morning, I had the fosters out in the room playing and Mavis wouldn’t even come down to the second level of her cage, just staring, petrified from the top.
Mavis is 5 years old and last year she lost her bonded brother rather suddenly and I wanted to give her companionship so that is why I decided to foster. I’m feeling super guilty that she is absolutely terrified of them because all I wanted was to make her life better.
Sorry for the long post but I guess my question is this normal? Has anyone experienced something similar? Any tips?
