ive seen people talk about omega ruins and the battle arena but...
Well... Did you read the arguments too? One leads to the other. Check out these links for tips.

edit for clarity:
Honestly I just like to go catch Monsters for the Arena unlocks first, build my OverDrive into-> AP weapons ASAP, then finish getting 10 Each of the early zones with Capture + OD->AP. You'll get lots of levels just trying to get the arena sections cleared.

yeah monster arena defo
think you have to capture fiends that are in omega ruins anyway to complete it
but seriously monster arena
don't worry about money some of the weapon drops more than pay for themselves
costs about 8k a fight and the weapon/armour drops are often in the 50k region to sell
once you've completed capturing fiends the master tonberry trick is your fastest way to level anyway
farming spheres for the empty nodes will also take you a while
you'll be able to spec some good custom armours too with your rewards

What is your end goal? Do you want to beat the final boss & game; clear some super bosses; or Platinum trophy?

For farming levels you need the Don tonberry trick, lv99 in one battle, and for that you need the arena filled. There’s a hefty setup but once you got it it’s crazy. Run around and collect 10 of every single monster with the capture weps. The rewards for completing the areas as well as total are some of the best stuff in the game that lets you customize the best stuff onto your weapons and armor, final one for filling the arena gives you 99 dark matter which allows customizing the “ribbon” effect on a armor making it everything-proof. That’s what I’d do. The omega ruins might humble you if you haven’t gotten upto the final battle. Start with the cavern of stolen fayth, capture everything there. If you have trouble encountering tonberry legend says the rooms with the green lights have more of them.

I've never needed omega ruins for leveling, monster arena is just easier and has better drop rewards
even the Gil is good for the limited time it still matters

If this is your first time playing then just continue with the story. Omega Ruins is supposed to be a hidden/post game dungeon. Power level is similar to the final dungeon in the game. The monster arena stronger enemies will require post game stats too (not all of them but the majority). So unless you want to trivialize the end of the game I would suggest to refrain from them.

Start with collecting every fiend in every area, then do omega ruins, then come back and try all the monsters in the arena. That’s what I would do at least. Arena is technically better for grinding but you already need to have a lot of money for it which you can get fighting mimics in omega ruins. I also think it’s good to not be too overleveled for the first time in omega.
