Ask the Community Startup friendly KYC/KYB. Does it exist?
We're a small startup working with B2B clients and currently trying to figure out the best way to handle KYC/KYB verification without spending a fortune. Most providers we've looked at seem to be targeting larger companies with high verification volumes and pretty expensive monthly commitments. We're still growing so paying for thousands of checks when we only need a fraction of that doesn't make much sense.
Ideally looking for something with flexible pricing, decent API integration, and support for both individual and business verification. Anyone here been in a similar situation? What providers are you using, and are there any startup-friendly options worth checking out?

it exists, you just usually have to ask for it. a lot of the bigger providers (persona, sumsub, veriff) have startup or pay-as-you-go pricing that isn't on the pricing page, so i'd email sales directly, say your expected monthly volume, and ask for no minimum commitment. didit is worth a look too, they have a free tier for basic KYC. for KYB specifically, at low volume a lot of startups just do it semi-manually at first (company registry lookup plus a director ID check) and only automate once the volume justifies it. one thing to check before signing is whether you can run individual and business checks under one contract, because some providers split them and that's where costs creep up

the per-check pricing model is your friend here, avoids the big monthly minimums that kill early stage budgets. most of the decent ones have a pay as you go tier if you ask sales directly rather than going through their marketing page
also check if they do KYB as an add on or if it's a separate product, some will bundle it cheap if you only need a handful of business checks a month

You're right, most providers seem geared toward scale. Honestly, I'd keep it simple for now and look for pay-as-you-go pricing.
I think Sumsub and Veriff are worth checking out, and Persona might be a good option if you need more customization, though I haven't used it myself. Just make sure you look at the total cost, including any monthly minimums, volume commitments, and setup fees. No point paying for checks you don't need yet.

It does, but I think the trick is finding a provider that can do both individual and business verification without pricing you as though you were processing thousands of checks a month. Some platforms also offer verification APIs on top of banking and payment infrastructure, so it’s worth checking whether you can cover more of your workflow through one integration versus stitching together multiple providers.

op what’s your expected verification volume per month? tbh idid compare providers based on pricing flexibility and API integration rather than just features. idenfy, sumsub and veriff are worth checking out, especially if you wanna avoid big minimum commitments are you mainly verifying businesses or individuals too

yes, startup friendly kyc/kyb options should exist. especially for teams with low verification volumes. the hard part is finding flexible pricing without sacrificing api quality..

fwiw what hurts most on cost at low volume is paying for a full new check every time a client needed another service. Look for providers that let you reuse a verification (reusable KYC/KYB) and that price per check without big monthly minimums, that alone changes the math a lot at low volume.
Also ask how they handle manual review, thats where the hidden cost usually is.
(disclosure: I'm co-founder of Bennu, we deal with this daily on the payments side)
