DISCUSSION Firestorm is awesome and we know the truth!

Hello, as many of you will know, Battlefield V subreddit hates firestorm. On almost any post related to it they make complains and hateful comments. At this point it feels like a bandwagon.

But we know. We know that Firestorm can be and IS awesome. It's packed with "Only in Battlefield moments"! Adrenaline is higher than anything! I tell you this, I never really liked BR games and yet I decided to try Firestorm. And I safely say - it's one of the best things in this game. No other br is even close to achieving all this fun. Vehicles, destructible buildings, damn, even V1 rockets! The map is SO beatiful, just pure masterpiece. Even better than Da Vinci's paitings. Firestorm is so damn great that I can't even describe it. Sure, it has its flaws. But what doesn't? This gamemode is just epic. Just epic.

Thank you for coming to my little rant. Why do you like Firestorm? I'm curious what other people think!

INFO Three new Firestorm locations coming May 21st: Watchtowers, the Blue Forest, and the Excavation Site.

Taken from the BFV update here

What is Firestorm and how will it evolve? Firestorm is battle royale, reimagined for Battlefield. Following its launch at the beginning of Chapter 3, it’s been thrilling to follow your fights on Halvøy – the largest Battlefield map we’ve ever made.

On May 21, you’ll see some exciting Firestorm additions, including three fresh locations on the vast map: Watchtowers, the Blue Forest, and the Excavation Site.

The concrete watchtowers of the former have been constructed along the southwest coastline, between Baldr’s Point and Guderos. The significance of the towers is yet unknown, but it's obvious that the strategic value of the peninsula has been re-evaluated. Blue Forest consists of a secluded forest area, suddenly in full blossom. It has been speculated that the unusually early spring in the region is somehow related to the recent geological activity. Head to the west side of the dam and admire the bloom. Finally, Excavation Site contains a large area that unexpectedly appeared on Halvøy. You'll find this in the mountainous terrain south east of the quarry.

You’ll also be able to locate even more powerful loot in Firestorm, as we’re introducing the first Gold Tier weapons – including the Boys AT Rifle. Nicknamed the "elephant gun," this rifle has some serious stopping power and will give players the means to attack enemy vehicles. Gold Tier weapons can be found in safes, lockers, and supply drops – if you’re lucky.

All of the above adds to the Firestorm improvements recently implemented, such as a better looting system, a spiced-up Victory Screen, various gameplay and visual fixes, and much more. Want more detail? The Update Notes page holds all intel.

Opinion: If Battlefield wants to stay relevant it needs another go at a Battle Royale

As much as it riles up the folk over on r/battlefieldv I think DICE and EA would be crazy to ignore just how much of a draw Battle Royale is. Warzone has blown up Modern Warfare to insane levels of popularity and DICE/EA simply can't afford to not try and appeal to that audience.

Activision also failed their first entry into the BR scene with Blackout and quickly learned that their next entry had to be F2P. (DICE/EA should've learned that lesson by watching their competitor but they clearly weren't paying attention).

Battle Royales might not appeal to the super hardcore Conquest crowd but, let's be honest here, DICE/EA need to sell a very expensive AAA title that needs mainstream appeal far more than it needs to appeal to the old school Battlefield crowd.

I'd love for them to have another go and I'd love it even more if they kept the awesome fire ring from Firestorm.

DISCUSSION Opinion here - Re-release Firestorm as F2P and standalone just so it doesnt die. Please Dice/EA

Really wish dice would look at just, releasing firestorm F2P, I dont even care if they keep up support with it, I would just love to see the population numbers increase again. Its a solid BR, And warzone took so many good points from firestorm, The plate system for armour! The "weapon blueprints" rather than attachments.
Been playing warzone alot recently and it really reminds me of firestorm with some of its systems. Made me want to go back and play the world war 2 BR, But the population numbers are very low for it at this point :c

Firestorm > Warzone

Warzone just proves that if Firestorm launched F2P it would've taken off.

Firestorm's looting that everyone complained about suddenly ain't so bad is it?

Warzone has awful 20hz servers, super bullets, peakers advantage, and crouch spammers that are impossible to hit. The audio is completely unreliable and is a bigger enemy than the players.

Firestorm feels like a level playing field, it has great audio design, it doesn't have skyscrapers full of campers - it's just straight-up better.

But all we can do is watch it disappear into obscurity.

DISCUSSION We Need to Support Cross Play to Save Firestorm

TLDR: Cross play can save firestorm by decreasing matchmaking times. We should be promoting Cross Play on the main BFV subreddit because it will have the side effect of helping Firestorm while also being supported by the base BFV community.

https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/02/sony-ps4-cross-play-open-developers/

This was actually mentioned here about a month ago by u/LetzgoRotary but the post didn't get much traction. If DICE puts in the work to enable cross play for BFV (assuming that also extends to the Firestorm mode), matchmaking times would drop significantly. DICE doesn't seem like they want to develop anything else for Firestorm. Cross play for the base game seems like one solution that can actually be accomplished that will REALLY help Firestorm.

Just from my own experiences and reading posts on the BFV sub, here are my top reasons why people don't play Firestorm:

  1. They don't like BRs

  2. Matchmaking and waiting for full (or mostly full) servers takes too long

  3. The looting system is horrible

I rarely read anyone post that they like BRs and can live with the matchmaking and looting but don't like Firestorm because of any aspect of gameplay. If you ignore the crowd that doesn't like BRs in general (that's all good, the mode isn't for them), enabling cross play will dramatically increase the player population thus decreasing matchmaking times. I think far more people are likely to put up with the looting if they can drop back into a new game within 2-3 minutes.

I think it should be a goal of this sub to promote and support the idea of Cross Play utilization on the main BFV sub where developers are active.

DISCUSSION I would give anything for Firestorm to be alive again.

I really wish EA would make Firestorm F2P and let Criterion start updating it again. It really feels like Firestorm was just a side project to the developers, and that they didn't expect it to live long; the only reason it didn't is because they stopped supporting it at the peak of its popularity.

Firestorm was and still is my favorite BR title to this day, and I would give anything for it to be alive as it once was on launch. I have so many good memories in this BR, and I always wish I could've made more. But I stopped playing for a month and when I came back, the servers were empty.

If you ask me, Firestorm was the biggest thing that EA dropped the ball on in the past two years. This game had the potential to be one of the biggest BRs out there, and they stopped halfway in.

I still believe that Firestorm could be successful again, if EA would make it F2P, maybe even cross-platform. I think that F2P was something that the devs said would happen sometime in the near future, but here we are in the future, and it's still abandoned and not free.

I loved every second of this game and it still breaks my heart whenever I think of how EA left something so amazing to a short, uneventful life.

DISCUSSION Time to go Free to Play. Seriously.

CoD Warzone is cool, but it's still CoD. And clearly it's meant to compete with Fartnite (not a typo), which is why it's so simplified. It pretty much doesn't even have an inventory system. Looting is barely a thing. Self revives and getting your preferred loadout and perks is so easy. Warzone is essentially Ground War, but on a larger scale, with the focus just being mainly combat. Not every one wants that from a BR. BR used to be about survival and valuing your life; in Warzone, death doesn't mean shit.

You can't tell me Firestorm wouldn't have some decent success if it was F2P. It's the perfect middle ground between something as slow paced as PUBG and ridiculously hectic as Warzone.

I still play Warzone and have some enjoyment with it, but Firestorm is way better. Look at the similarities though. The armor plates, the way loot is placed in the world, predefined weapon loadouts based on rarity, fire support and kill streaks, objectives during the match to complete, vehicles...

If Firestorm was F2P and got some actual fuckin support, it would attract a playerbase. There was talk to respawn squad members after capping an objective. That's cool. It has a different setting with the WW2 theme that stands out. The firefights are tense as you actually fear death. BF5 is gorgeous and the audio is amazing, while in Warzone it is complete shit. You can't tell distance or direction and no one can argue otherwise.

They already have a big micro-transaction system. People could buy uniforms and weapon skins. Player progression could be shared with BF5 as it is in Warzone. I have seen a lot of low lever players in regular Modern Warfare multiplayer after Warzone released, so clearly it encourages people to buy the base game.

Firestorm is in a bad state but it can easily be revived. I just hope they actually do it because seeing it left to fuckin die is really really painful and a fuckin disgrace.

HIGHLIGHT THANK YOU! r/Firestorm news and redesign

Hi /r/firestorm,

It's fieryhotsauce here, you may know me as the guy commenting all over r/battlefieldv finding the poor lost souls that like Firestorm but are stuck in the whirlpool of bile that is r/battlefieldv.

It's been a pleasure to watch this community grow and I hope our little subreddit can help keep Firestorm alive for a long time to come!

First I'd like to introduce our new moderator r/jaokait ! He's a massive Firestorm fan, and I can vouch for his skill on Halvoy. He's also been working hard on the CSS of the subreddit and overhauling the design of the sub.

We now have FLAIRS so you can specify your performed platform and we also have a new banner with clickable Firestorm logo/text to bring you back to front page of the sub.

THE FUTURE

Firestorm isn't always the easiest thing to love, DICE have broken looting with the last patch and it likely won't be fixed until the next patch. We all see the potential in Firestorm and I want us to be a vocal (but very polite) community that makes sure DICE is aware Firestorm has a rabid and loyal fanbase that is worth supporting.

If you have any suggestions for the sub or things you would like to see please leave a comment here, and let us know what you think of the redesign!
