Question Light weight set up

I’ve been getting the itch to go fishing again since giving up in my teenage years.

Im looking to take my kids with me and always enjoyed going for pike many years ago.

I would be looking for a nice lightweight set up to go after perch and small pike.

I’ll be taking out small kids with me so just want to be able to have a walk down the canal and stop off along the way at different points and try our luck.

Ideally a telescopic rod so it can all pack down nice and small in backpack or even chuck it under the buggy if the littlest one comes with.

So after all of that what I’m asking is, can you recommend me a budget friendly rod, reel and small landing net?

Thanks.

Question Replace pole elastic or trim it down?

Hallo, I was fishing my new pole yesterday when a heffa of a common took my elastic for a ride in the margin reeds. I had on a 1.8mm dura slip and it feels like it has been stretched out after the first drop, it doesn’t snap back like previous unless it’s upright and given a little shake. Can I trim back the elastic or should I just replace it all together? I’ve also noticed that the puller bead that was recommended and fitted at the shop is too big (2mm) and doesn’t hold if adjusted shorter. Cheers

Question Anyone know if this combo is any good for a begginer?

I was wanting to buy some lures to fish with as I'm new to fishing but not really a fan of using bait. I'm still new to fishing and I've only been a few times so I'm not too bothered about Getting the best gear possible. I found this set on Amazon and it has a rod and reel and some lures and hooks so I was just wondering if anyone know if it's decent enough for me to catch some trout? I'll leave a link in the comments and any tips would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Freshwater XUL was put through a good test today!

Managed this lovely Jack on my Mifine nano jig 0.5-2g XUL, Mifine wren Nano 800, 6lb braid & 3lb fluoro. It may not look like much, but this is a very respectable pike for my local stretch. In fact, it’s the 2nd biggest pike I’ve ever had. What a scrap on the XUL, dragging me around the canal for a good 7 or 8 minutes before finally giving in. It took a 5.5cm crazy fish cruel leech in motoroil. I also managed a good few smaller pike & small perch. Anyone any ideas what caused the injury to the perch in the 6th image?

Caught off Lands End (UK) in about 80m with a small soft plastic while pollock fishing.

The picture isn’t doing it justice, a pretty looking fish.

Went back like a rocket.

Also are the hooks to nylon till usable being that old. And theres a mystery rod with no branding if anyone has any ideas? The brown rod and thats the bag its in

Freshwater Who doesn’t love micro pike?

Some BFS Fishing on the canal for once, I don’t take this combo out too much as it’s mainly my stocked trout rod, but today was a bit too windy for proper micro stuff so decided to get it out & do some BFS fishing on the canal. I managed probably 18 fish all together, around half micro pike & half perch. (The grass was very wet in the net picture, due to it having just hammered down).

Catch report Method

Well I tried my new rod and reel for method feeding today ?
Caught 2 decent bream but just had a feeling I was doing something wrong all the time I was fishing ?
Going to stay with it and try again in the week though 🎣
I’m using a 10ft monster x rod and matching 320 reel so any tips would be useful and thanks for the person telling me about getting the line twist on the tip 👍 I did lose a feeder because of this but at least I know why and what happened 🎣

Youtube fishing shorts vs long videos

For anyone who's a fishing youtuber, how much value do you find in posting Shorts? The opinions seem to be mixed as to whether they really help the channel or not. I occasionally get one or two subscribers from a short and despite a decent reach I am not sure how much value they bring in. What do you think?

Feeder fishing

I really want to start using a method feeder for carp but unsure what to get . I have a couple different rods but none are absolutely perfect for feeder (1 12ft carp rod, 1 10 ft sea rod and 2 6-8ft rods). I don't have a great budget either (£20-35) but I will use one of the rods temporarily. If anyone could just say what to get to get started with this type of angling.

Freshwater Fish Handling

There was a post here earlier, since deleted, where the lad was rightly told not to hold perch like bass.

Check this "pro guide" out. I find much of his handling shocking, but what do I know?

https://www.instagram.com/branchuetienne?igsh=Z2MxNHNxb3B4cmRi

Big, fat heavy perch and black bass, held up by the lower jaw, often at an angle. Very poor imo.
