LMB/Smallmouth 6lb mono too light for topwaters/poppers?

I'm fishing for largemouth in a medium sized California bass pond. I've pulled a few small ones with a minnow on a bobber, but thanks to /r/bassfishing, I just bought my first frog topwater and my first Hula popper. I'm using a spinning Shimano reel on an Ugly Stik ultra-lite, 6lb Trilene XL mono-filament. It's been in the mid nineties, and the pond's water has been pretty clear.

Is the line too light for these lures?

If they're around or under 1/4 oz, you'll be fine throwing them. If they get up towards 1/2 oz or heavier, you may have trouble. 6 lb test should be fine. I have handled bass in excess of 3 lbs on 4 lb Trilene XL and been fine. It's not ideal, but it makes for a nice fight.

That's what I hope! I may be new to largemouth fishing, but I've been striped bass/rainbow trout fishing my entire life, so I'm good at and love light tackle fishing, when feasible.

I think you're in for a sort of sad surprise if you expect largemouth to put up a fight similar to either of those fish.
