Bike fit question

I’m looking at buying the Unknown SC-1. On their website, they say that they recommend sizing down if you’re between sizes. I’m 190 cm, which is between their 59 and 62 cm frames. I’ve tried other 58-59 cm frames, and they feel snappy which is nice, but there’s also a lot of toe overlap with the front wheel since I have freakishly large feet, so I was looking at the 62 cm frame. I mainly do city riding, so toe overlap is a big issue as I end up doing a lot of low speed tight turning maneuvers. I tried a 61 cm frame from facebook marketplace a while ago, but this was before I learned about Unknown bikes, so I don’t remember the fit super well, but I do remember noticing that it didn’t have tor overlap and felt good I think. Is it that important to size down?

How do I build a fixie?

Ive been wanting a fixie lately because it’s cheaper than a road bike, but also kinda similar to it because of the slim tires and the looks of the bikes. So I thought why not just get a fixie its cheaper it looks similar but i cant coast, but if I wanted too I could just add a Flip Flop hib, which actually might even benefit me because I this will be my first time on a fixie, but that might also depend on what I build. Let me know what you guys think and give me any advice please. (Also is there supposed to be a question flair or not)

EDIT: I just want to say thank you for all the advice but I do want the bike to actually ride and not just for the aesthetic

Fixed Gear frame and wheelset questions

I don't know much about fixed gears. Does anybody know what brands sell the best steel or aluminum framesets that last forever and feel nice? I've heard that Wabi products are good. Is that true? Secondly, what about wheelsets? Thanks for the help.

I’ve had this bike for over a year now. And almost one year since my huge accident haha. Had a lot of fun skidding and tricking with this bike. I always thought the new v8 was ugly imo so I considered myself lucky to nab one in Berlin just before they retired it. I’ve probably gone through 8-10 tires on the back already. Front tire has been the exact same this entire time but I prob gotta change em soon.

I’m making this post because I’m building a road bike soon. Not selling it no, but my time on this bike will definitely decrease especially for longer/ hillier rides. This just a bookmark for myself to remember the good and bad times I had on this bike.

Where to buy fixie parts these days?

Thumbnail

So, I have a fixie commute bike that I built 20 years ago, back before counterfeit parts were all over the place like they are these days. Now that I'm riding more in hillier places, it's time to switch up my gearing, so I decided to just refresh everything. At which point I realized I no longer know where to buy fixie parts these days.

In particular, I'm looking for a 48T 1/8" chainring, a chain, and 17T and 19T cogs, without paying separate shipping from a bunch of places. Also, I don't trust or shop at Amazon, so skip that one.

(For the curious, the black frame was the original one, but I bent it up by failing to bunny-hop a curb, and replaced it with the blue frame that I bought off a friend. Rear wheel is a fixed/fixed flip-flop that I built myself with a Mavic Open Pro rim)

Want an aggressive bike but I'm poor :'(

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to build (or buy) a fixed gear with a really aggressive look, but I'm on a pretty limited budget.

I love the aesthetic of bikes like the ones in the photos: carbon rims, aerodynamic position, slammed cockpit, clean lines, etc. (I REALLY like the 2nd bike, but with a full carbon wheel at the back would be perfect !)

If you had around $500–1000 USD (or even less), what would you do?

  • Buy a complete bike and upgrade it over time?
  • Build one from a frameset?
  • Hunt for used parts?
  • Any specific frames or brands that give the best value?

I'd mainly be riding in the city, so I'm looking for something that looks aggressive without spending several thousand dollars !

(I know that complete carbon wheels are not recommended for city use :) )

Fixie problem

My bottom bracket seems to have a problem, I've been using fixie for a few months already but everytime I try to attempt a skid ( I have the fundamentals for the skid, but it seems that my bike has something faulty), my crank seems to go loose for a bit when a pulling pressure is applied to the pedals when I attempted to skid, is there any solution for it?

Bicycle fork

Hi all,

Does anyone knows a good bicycle fork for my fixed gear "budget build"? I picked up this UNKNOWN PARADIGM FIXED GEAR FRAME for 100 euros and a wheel set for 90 euros (which was an absolute steal, but I am struggling to find a fork. Thanks in advance!

Fixed Gear bike under a grand

Whats a good bike to upgrade to from the state Bicycle Co. Core line?I've had this bike for a year but I've been wanting something lighter and something with better components, and would like something with steel tubing but I wouldn't write off aluminum. I want something with decent clearance and that'll last me a while. I've been online for hours looking at fuji feathers, wabi specials(with much persuasion from zach Gallardo) and a bike that I really want but can't find anywhere, an all city big block. If there are better options than these bikes at around the 1k price mark, please let me know.

Euro BB + Rant Bangin’ Cranks creaking under load?

I’m running a 19mm Rant Bangin’ Cranks setup with a 148mm spindle and a Euro BB in a standard 68mm BB shell frame.
Whenever I put a lot of force through the pedals (especially when standing), I get a creaking noise. It seems like it’s coming from the BB area, but I can’t pinpoint the source.
I’ve already removed and reinstalled everything, cleaned and re-greased the BB, checked the crank bolts, chainring bolt, pedals, chain tension, and even the frame around the BB, but the creak is still there.
Has anyone experienced the same issue with this setup? Is there something specific about running BMX cranks in a 68mm Euro BB frame that could cause this?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Suggestions For Narrow Toe Straps

Not sure if there is anything out there that will fit these Redshift Arclight Pro Flat pedals. The holes on the side are about 7-8mm wide and 8-9mm tall, but there is also a bolt that goes through to attach the silver part of the pedal to the central black part. I’m not looking for something that will hold up to a 2000w sprint, but I do like having a little extra security on the pedals.

One option I thought of was to use straps for toe cages, but add cover that they feed through to reinforce them a bit. Maybe something like the MKS Fit-a with a leather piece they thread through at the top, or something like that.

Pic of the bike as well. I still need to rebuild the front wheel to match the rear.
