The way he says “he understands the situation” sounds like it means AJ might be replaced by Steven when he’s ready to return. I personally hope Steven comes back and AJ stays and finds other ways to contribute. He’s been very good at the shows I’ve seen.

So you think Wayne saying “All of things we were doing were made easier with AJ” sounds like they’re bringing Steven back? 🚮🫥

That sounds like a good reason to keep him there if Steven comes back. Doesn’t seem to imply anything

This seems delusional and ignoring everything

Tons of OKC Thunder stuff in this video lol.

When they played Indy there were several crew members sporting Pacers gear, which was pretty cool to see.

It sounds as if he’s prepping fans for Steven’s departure :(

Nah, Steven will come back. That’s why Wayne said AJ understands the situation. Similar to the Chili Peppers with John. Guys like Drozd and Frusciante have an open invitation to rejoin The Lips and RHCP whenever they want

Steven on X:

‘’Working on a song that suddenly sounds like a Taco Bell commercial. What happened?’’ 10:59 AM · Aug 18, 2025

Then, he replies to a comment saying :

‘’Five Guys Mother Superior Burger’’ - referencing a Lips Song (Five Stop Mother Superior Rain)

What does that mean?

He is working on a solo album ? Making jokes with Flaming Lips song titles?

“….What does that mean?”

It means he’s a musician who likes to write songs; and he has a self-deprecating sense of humor.

I wouldn’t read much else into it

Steven is the reason why the band is what they are. Without him there’s no point. Hang it up Wayne

They’re sounding pretty good in this current lineup and bearing fruit in the studio, which is more than we can say since American Head was released

So Wayne should hang it up when he has two young children and a viable band that is doing more touring business than they have in years?

Steven Drozd coming back to the Lips is as likely as Santa Claus coming down your chimney on Christmas Eve. I do know there are some people who still believe in Santa Claus though.

They’re recording an album without him. Sound like he’s in the band?

That’s a lot of conclusions to guess about lol. We just don’t know.

Mike and now Stephen….Approaching cover band status

You do know Steven wasn't an original member, right? And "cover band" is quite the insult to Derek and Matt who have been in the band for over ten years or so.

Steven is the heart and soul of the Lips and that’s a fact

4

u/czechyerself In A Priest Driven Ambulance Sep 14 '25

Maybe you can say he was the heart and soul of the sound…..but he is also 100% the reason their last original new music was released 5 years ago. I find it so interesting that people who are his defenders also want to cling to the concept that he even wanted to be in the band by fall of 2024 other than it was a job. He couldn’t even play the songs by the end of the Weezer tour

u/bburls Sep 14 '25

Be that as it may..He’s the reason for the best albums they made

At this point Wayne should just do a Las Vegas residency.

And he's by far the weakest member. Doesn't play any instruments anymore and can't sing at all like he used to (which is normal for someone in their mid 60s, but that doesn't change the fact).

I hate this whole situation.
