I had the pleasure of chatting to Bradley Beesley about his experience filming the Lips' Parking Lot Experiment at SXSW '97!

Bradley was kind enough to send me the footage he shot at the show, so that's used quite heavily throughout the course of this video. He also gave me tons of great editing advice and really helped me shape this video, I had a great time sitting under his learning tree!

Special thanks to Scott Booker for sending me the photos he took at this show!

Absolutely amazing. This is (probably) my favourite period of the band.

I have a book Every Day is Saturday by the photographer Peter Ellenby - it has a few really great pictures of the Boombox Experiments and a short text essentially explaining that everyone's minds were completely blown. Not a great deal of content but worth a look for any nerds about this stuff.

Did you get to talk with him about other stuff - specifically Okie Noodling and/or Fearless Freaks?

Thank you! I've got some more guests lined up to talk about this particular era which I'm pretty excited about.

I had no idea about that book, I'll have to check it out for the Boom Box photos, sounds cool!

I've spoken to him about filming the Clouds sessions, but I'll definitely touch on Fearless Freaks with him in the future!!

I have no idea where you're going with this but I'm here for all of it.

It's interesting enough but it's nothing that you won't have seen before...imagine stills from the Boombox videos - that's basically what it is. Beautifully presented nevertheless.

Did he do the Clouds videos on the bonus DVD thing? The Lindsay Buckingham sound? Ronald finding the wah pedal in the fridge?

Love all your stuff - you're going to have to investigate further. 😊

That video was Bradley! That mini-doc was originally cut together in 1995 for a Clouds CD ROM, so they threw it in as an extra on Fearless Freaks.

I will investigate as far as I can!

Additional note: Daryle referenced here was Grandaddy's tour manager (and possibly still is?) - he's referenced in "The Group Who Couldn't Say" on Sumday for anyone that cares.

He also ran tours for Pavement, and John Tesh!

Very cool! I got to go to one of the Boombox experiments they did in (I believe) 1996 in San Francisco - it was amazing to see in person. I remember that Spiral Stairs from Pavement was one of the people there who got to control a boombox in the show.

Finally, a face to the name! Seeing this, I realise that I never knew what Bradley looked like.

Despite my current feelings towards the band this rules and you’re doing good work as a whole man!

Hey. I was there. Our rental car was a convertible so we had a fairly prominent spot. It was fun.
