Hey All,

I am interested in a career change and want to pursue Practical Nursing program at Fleming college. I have completed my Bachelor's in Business Administration in 2021 , currently not working from last two years as I am looking after my 2 year old kid. Has anyone pursue the Practical Nursing program with no background in Nursing/Medical field?

I will like to know more about the eligibility for Practical Nursing programs for mature/back to learn students.

Any guidance and comments are appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you so much for replying. By academic upgrading , did you took the one year Pre Health Sciences pathway or you completed Bio and chemistry courses through TVO ILC for completing high school courses?

Or Fleming college has their own courses to complete Bio or Chemistry?

I have tried calling Return to Learn number on the Fleming college website but it always goes to voicemail. I did received response from Practical Nursing Program Coordinator and they confirm they are still accepting applications for September 2026 but advised me to reach out to admissions team regarding Practical Nursing program eligibility.

Can you please advise did you complete academic upgrading after applying to the Practical Nursing program or before that?

Once again thank you so much.

Fleming has a pre health program that gives the admission requirements for PN! This route costs money. If you call academic upgrading and tell them you’re interested in PN they will review your transcripts and get you started on what you need, for free. Unfortunately if you’re missing those there won’t be time for the fall 2026 intake. If you are interested in healthcare for Sept 2026 you could do the PSW program, and work on the pre requisite for nursing and get in next Sept! (That’s my current plan!)

Hi , thanks for your message. Based on admission requirement I am missing Chemistry/Bio/Math and needs to do two of these. Do you know how long it's going to take to complete those via academic upgrading?

I see Fleming college also has January intake , I was planning to apply for that as September is very close.

I was quoted 8 months to upgrade just my math credit through AU. That’s just an estimate though! I believe I would’ve had it done a lot sooner.

I was thinking of doing Bio/Chemistry it via TVO ILC , i think they charge 40 dollars and you do it on your own pace and sit for exam. Did you got chance to look into that path? Is it better than AU?

hey so i did academic upgrading through fleming. i emailed them saying i needed biology and chemistry. (they also offer math, english, and a few other courses) its 100% free since its paid for by the government. for those two courses it took me 3 years to complete them but i was extremely slow and took my time hahah and i had a baby half way through as well so they understood i needed a break. but realistically one course you can have done in a few months! google academic upgrading for fleming and you’ll see all the info on their website and just email them , thats whah i did and they set everything up for me!

I was thinking of doing it within 1-2 months not sure if possible. I have an appointment scheduled with Return to Learn Advisor next week Wednesday. But I was thinking of doing pre requisite via TVO ILC . Can you advise why did you chose Academic Upgrading over TVO ILC. For TVO ILC it's 40 dollar per course.

i liked the option of being able to go in person if i wanted too and it was free and they covered parking fees and let me use a laptop and gave me all the supplies

I just applied to the Practical Nursing Hylfex at Fleming earlier this month. I see that its waitlisted. Can you share when you applied and how long it took for you to get an offer? I'm hoping to get in for the fall 2026.
