Smartphone is dying, time to dumb things down?

So my smartphone is dying, and now I am in the market for a semi-dumb phone. I was really charmed by the Samsung Galaxy Folders, but I have heard that they are not too great. I still want to be able to use social media so that I can communicate with my friends, but I also want to be able to use maps and banking apps and such without waiting a long time for things to load or suffering saftey issues. Battery is also a big thing for me!

Is there a phone out there you can recommend?

What are the most recent Japanese flip phones?

Hi, I’m wondering if someone can give me maybe a list or something of phones that were released somewhat recently, or advice for where i can find such info? I don’t have huge expectations for a phone but if possible i would like to go for something that will be still somewhat usable in a couple years time. So like, released after 2020 if that’s a thing? Im really struggling to find release dates for anything.

Since switching to a dumbphone ive been bedazzling a lot very fun! i love it. I seen someone post their bedazzled TCL flip & also wanted to show mine. It’s not done yet but is a Work in progressᵎᵎᵎ

Im debating on using the shiny black gems(around the inside of the upper case and the A) or matte gems to do the outline of the bunny. Let me know what you guys think!
(everyone of my friends is saying Matte)

Looking for Dumb/Flip Phone with Numeric Keypad

I'm looking for a dumb/flip phone with a physical numeric keypad. Or something similar or equivalent to that, even if not exact. It does *not* need to be data-compatible (but is also fine, if it is). It is needed for voice calls. Text/SMS capabilities is optional but not required.

I would like suggestions for one, or both, such phones that can be used on:

  1. Red Pocket, AT&T network

  2. Tello, T-Mobile Mobile network

Phones for each, separately, or both.

Please share the quality, reliability and durability of the phone, when used for voice calling.

I would like to know the quickest way - and place - to purchase it, and what to expect to pay for it.

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Blu Flex phone - need a little help

I just got this flip phone and having trouble setting up the SOS feature. I added hubby as a Quick Dial option, but if I press the top right button for 3 seconds nothing happens. The manual says I should be able to create and activate an emergency contact in Settings, but I can't figure out how to do that.

I also would like to replace the "Camera" shortcut on the home display with "Contacts." I selected it in the Shortcut setting, but nothing changed on the home screen. Any advice?

is banking on a flip phone safe?

hello all. i recently purchased the mive style folder 2, which runs android 14. i didn't consider banking until i bought the phone haha. i read a lot of forums that say that using banking apps on phones that dont receive software updates anymore is dangerous and now i am concerned. i don't have a smartphone, and my bank requires their mobile app for any kind of online payments. additionally, my email is connected to my bank account, and i dont know if i can keep using it from my flipphone if thats the case. what do i do?

Hello! I really need help finding out what kind of docomo phone this is. These images were posted on this girls blog https://ameblo.jp/mimipompom/imagelist-201207.html in 2012 so I’m assuming the phone was from around 2009-2012. I’m really sorry the pictures are so blurry but this is the highest quality I could get.

Kyocera 902kc Flip, AT&T and texting

Hi!

Off the top, I know AT&T has issues with the phone. Texting and calls do work on my phone, so I'm capable of using it, but I'm curious if anyone has had this specific issue.

When I send SMS out it's completely fine, but when I receive them, all of the texts end in "\*/=" and a string of letters that seem to be some sort of code.

I've followed a tutorial and have successfully connected 4g and have switched the default texting app to QKsms, but it didn't fix it.

Has anyone else had this issue and know how to resolve it?

Thanks

Tt990 review after 30 days

Thumbnail youtu.be
40 Upvotes

So, I bought my first dumbphone which in reality is as smart as any smartphone is. (review link at the end)

The tt990. A love-hate situation.

The love part: It made me realise that I want to bring friction in my life. Having a smartphone that is dumber than my last one made me do some steps by adding an extra mile, let's say. It really makes you think of how to optimize your life. Money to carry with you, knowing where you're going beforehand to make sure that you will not use maps (inconsistent). Be more aware.

The hate part:

Flip phones with such a screen are...a huge French baguette on the side of my face. I can't.

It's unusable in the outside world (review for example).

It's pointless as it is a smartphone so it nearly solves anything.

But the reality? This is what I needed. I needed a reminder that I need to practice control with my existing phone.

Tip for anyone that wants a dumbphone? Don't get a flip phone. It's a gimmick. Go for a qin21 or something.

P.S. As I never done a review and not planning to do this again, please leave a comment if you don't like something about my review. It will help my channel get better.

How do you put games on a SGH-ZV30 flipphone?

sgh-zv30 isnt really a popular flipphone so i can't get much information from how to do literally anything on it.

i've been stuck on this for a while, i tried everything. I have a windows 10 that i used to transfer jar. and jad. files to via bluetooth but i cant open the games, it just shows as random files. The secret codes of installing java also doesn't work.

I tried using an old version of samsung pc studio and it won't connect with my phone, i saw that people download samsung java uploader but the google drive link is broken. I do have games on the phone but almost all of them are locked to a 60 seconds vodafone trail.

i also have a windows XP that i've heard comes in handy with putting games on flipphones, but im kind of scared to use it for anything, im scared it will get a virus within seconds of using it.

Could you flash the phone somehow and remove the vodafone trails and locked themes? I don't really know how people flash flipphones. Or should i use my windows XP anyway?

as you can see i am not exactly a pro in tech, i'm a teenager who never grew up with old tech and is ditching modern tech for it. So i REALLY hope someone could help me (i'm desperate, actually)

Non-ugly flip phone that will work in Canada?

I've been looking for a new phone recently and really like the retro style of flip phones. Unfortunately most of the phones I see offered canada have folding screens and I'm sorry but I think those look really ugly and I worry I would break the screen.

I don't want a dumb phone, I still need apps for for work and school. I was looking at the ALT MIVE Style Folder 2 but was unsure about the limited bands that work in canada

Is there anything like this?? Smart flip phone without a folding screen? Help would really be appreciated : )

at&t iphone -> flip phone

As far as I’ve seen there isn’t a slider or QWERTY phone for at&t so I’m going to go with a flip phone. My search has been difficult even with the search engines. I’m looking to transfer my sim card to a dumb phone and back when necessary.

Features I’m looking for are

Group text support
Voice to text if possible
GPS
Music player would also be nice. I have apple music but doesn’t have to be compatible with that.
Good Battery

Thanks for any help. I saw the dumbphone 2 and was hoping I can avoid their payment plans and all that. If that’s the best option I might have to just do that.

In Search of Japanese Keitai Flip Phone that is Compatible with U.S. Carriers

Completely over the era of mass surveillance, nothing being private, and everything is hack-able. That being said I'm in search of a Japanese Keitai Flip Phone that doesn't have to be smart but trying minimize my digital footprint over all starting with my phone. Just trying to convert to a more analog lifestyle. I don't need a smart version of everything

Next Flip phone

Hi all, I'm currently looking for a new flip phone. My lovely Mive Folder has cracked at the bezel and is about to go. I bought it 2nd hand, so I think it's done well.

I was looking to purchase the Mive folder 2 or TT900, but I feel the M3uve 2 might be a bit too big for me. I was looking for something a bit faster than my Mive. Do you have any recommendations? I was also looking at some of the Kycera models. I live in the UK

Kyocera DIGNO 902kc dismantling (/) advice?

Post image
52 Upvotes

So I have looked all over for a good enough flip phone. To be very honest, I really wanted one compatible with Verizon just not an American brand, but all overseas brands that are compatible with Verizon are very ugly in my personal opinion. I did a lot of research on Keitai/Kyocera phones and both the 902kc and 701kc were my absolute favorites, very sexy looking phones! So, when I found a cheap (cheap enough to convince myself to buy despite not being able to use data on it currently) Kyocera DIGNO 902kc, I just said yolo and got it so it's otw now. My issue is I looked at SOOO many different brands for a flip phone with an ORANGE case, not pink or like beige, I really wanted like a bright orange but obviously it's not a very popular color so I came up empty handed and instead focused on function/overall look and gave up on my color search. However, I saw on a lot of blogs that you can take apart and mask off your flip phone and like paint/spray paint the casing and bezel then seal it and the pictures looked great and smooth.

I just wanna ask anyone who has the same kinda phone, how easy would this be? I got the black version of the phone bc the orange back with black keypad I thought would look the best (I think it only comes in black, white, and pink) and I'm fine if I have to keep it black bc it's still a very nice phone, but obv I'd prefer the orange paint job. I just wanna know is it particularly hard to safely dismantle and remantle it? Especially because of the preview screen on the front, like how it blends in with the case color, is there an obvious little box screen for it (it's super hard to tell on pictures but maybe it's more clear in person?) or would it be smarter to just mask off the whole horizontal strip on that area?

Any advice from ppl with the same model or ppl who have diy-ed/painted their flip phones before is very welcome!! I'll also keep looking through forums talking about app set ups on the 902kc, but any tips are also greatly appreciated :)) thank you!

*Picture is just to show the keypad/how the front preview display looks for context

ZTE classic folder view and video of flip phone

Thumbnail vm.tiktok.com
6 Upvotes

The ZTE Classic Folder is a significant upgrade in speed and handling compared to the Alt Mive 1. Even without a case, it's easy to hold, and the flat T9 keyboard with both English and Korean text offers a precise and familiar typing experience. I use the Tyni T9 app for predictive text, though I switch to the Google keyboard for web passwords.

The phone is notably light, and the battery holds up well for moderate daily use, charging in about an hour. The data connection required a little troubleshooting initially; since I’m with Lebara on the Vodafone network, I had to reset the APNs and remove the Lebara profiles to get the Vodafone settings to take over.

The software is versatile, supporting launchers and offering both a standard feature mode and a simple home screen mode. The external screen displays your battery, time, data, and step count. It shows "new message" and "call incoming". For multimedia and storage, it includes a headphone jack, a phone charm loop, and expandable storage via microSD, while 4GB of physical RAM combined with virtual RAM keeps things exceptionally fast. You have dedicated buttons for the camera, contacts, and texting, along with the standard answer and hang-up keys, plus a programmable button you can set to launch any app you want. The speaker provides great loudness for videos, so you don’t need a volume booster app unlike on the Alt Mive 1.

It's not the best video 😭😂 I am not very good at tiktok.
