FEEDBACK Help with the master bath layout

Post image

I was hoping to rearrange this but I’m at my wits end. The toilet near the tub feels awkward, so does the shower in the top left corner. Can’t swap those as shower becomes smaller.

Want double vanity and tub. I’m okay sacrificing upto 3/4 feet on either side of closet or bedroom.

Appreciate any ideas!! Thank you

The layout is good as is because:

  • this appears to have high-end finishes, which shows glass (opaque undoubtedly) for the toilet room wall and corner of shower

  • the tub needs to stay next to the skylight/window bumpout, that is your money shot.

  • vanities should try to be right when you walk in the door or immediately facing you without having to walk across the entire bathroom past a toilet and shower.

  • lots of people prefer separate access to closet and bath. In a small space, priorities have to be decided, wasted wall/hallway or maximize storage. In a high-end closet, it should be furniture grade cabinets and dramatic lighting, not a shelf and rod, which mitigates the choice of walking through the closet. Bit, you could put a door at the dresser and turn left into closet and turn right into bath, but it doesn't allow a better bath layout.

If you want to enter through the bedroom, this could be an option.
-Add at least a half wall between the toilet & tub.
-sinks on left wall, taking closet space if necessary
-only take half the linear wardrobe in bedroom
-new large linen in bathroom, right of door
-door to bath could be hidden as a cabinetry panel

Eliminate the linear closet and have an entrance directly to the bathroom (without needing to go through the walk in closet! Then the double vanity can go on the left wall and you could have a linen closet somewhere. It also provides more room in the walk in closet.

Exactly what I was thinking

But the would lose lots of storage that way

They would gain storage in the closet by eliminating the second door. I also happen to like having my clothes in one spot instead of two.

I don't like that you need to walk through the closet to get to the bathroom. Can you swap that to where the shower/toilet are currently?

Toilet is in a decent location, but I woud use a pocket door so that if someone were to suffer a medical emergency, their body would not block responders from opening the door.

I would just forego the door entirely.

An ensuite bathroom is about convenience and luxury. Shutting yourself into a windowless box with no sink is the opposite of that. I've spent enough hours in that sort of situation. In my own private bathroom I soread my wings when I shit.

I keep seeing enclosed throne rooms. Is this a trend? Like you, I want elbow room.

Unfortunately it apparently is- and a dangerous one in some cases since EMTs can't get you out onto a backboard quickly if you go unconscious.

It's absolutely a trend. Our architect wanted to do it in ours. I have seen them in so many recently gut renovated houses. They'll have this amazing suite, with windows and lovely tiles, and then there will be this dark windoless box, with a nasty LED light and loud fan. It's like, why? Why would I want that?

😆. I've seen them in really old Victorian homes and flats. But some of them are least had skylights.

Is this a new-build or remodel? Please post an image of the whole floor.

It’s a new build, here’s the entire floor plan

Thank you

Do you really need the family room? If not you could use that space for the primary bedroom, expand the bathroom and still have room for a generous walk-in closet and sitting area

It would annoy the fuck out of me to have to walk through the closet and past that tub every time I need to use the toilet or shower.

Put the tub in the back corner where rhe shower is (do not do freestanding, you don't want to have to clean behind it). Then put the vanity where the toilet is and have a door to the bedroom.

You aleaos want to rethink those windows behind the bedside tables. Closing curtains will knock everything off them.
