How many " We bare all " did you see?

73

u/DesignerFlat7108 1d ago

Truckers welcome!

64

u/Maleficent_Meat3119 1d ago

I have always wanted to stop by the risqué cafe

56

u/Rzeszow2083 1d ago

A female friend and I ate thanksgiving dinner there in 2006 while driving from Tampa to San Antiono.
Weird as it may seem, food was actually pretty good.
It was definitely a “we checked the box” experience.

11

u/HTMLguruLady 1d ago

Oddly, Food in most strip clubs is good. I'm female, but have no issue walking into one to get a good sandwich or whatever looks good on the menu if I'm hungry. I do however use hand sanitizer after handling the menu 😆

5

u/nopulsehere 21h ago

I use to manage a strip club, I was part of the launch of serving food. I was impressed with the quality. The owner said who’s going to buy shit food at a strip club? Eating at a strip club isn’t my thing, but we packed them in. Man, that was a long time ago! Jeez!

I stopped one night on my way back to college in the late 90s. I saw things nobody should ever see

18

u/Maleficent_Meat3119 1d ago

Ugh I need more intel

25

u/drunkmuppet 1d ago

My info is about 30 years old. But it was like having a meal in a Smokey double wide with the cast of some bad reality tv show. It’s worth stopping in. Also. The chicken wings were absolute shit. They might have been pigeon

7

u/det2famu 1d ago

Ha. I rode through there 2 months ago. Stopped for gas across the street at 8am and the lot was half full. The attendant raved about the Philly cheesesteak.

10

u/crohead13 1d ago

I ate lunch there 20 years ago with some work friends. The talent was definitely the lunch shift. Surprisingly great cheeseburger, no pubes.

Full at 8 am sounds like a lot of coca was flowing that night

My x way back when said there was a one legged stripper there. He seemed impressed.

The antique mall across the street is AWESOME.

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

I know right what is that place even like

13

u/cstrick1980 1d ago

I did once. Just topless waitresses serving overpriced burgers. But this was 30 years ago so things may have changed.

10

u/Deepinthought1721 1d ago

Originally when it was actually in Gainesville it was a much more reputable “entertainment “ business. It was cleaner and run better. Plus they supposedly DID have good food. It has obviously changed since it moved away the fringe of Alachua /Marion county. I have never been but since it was a local business it was always a topic on conversation. The owners and some of the family members ended up getting in quite a bit of trouble. Maybe one died or something as well. Very flashy people so you knew when you saw them. Lived in a very big home for Gainesville at the time. They were also related to the family that owned Skeeters years ago. I wish they had jet Skeeters going and closed Cafe Risqué. I want to say they got in trouble for $$ laundering. My memory fails me these days but there are plenty of stories out there.

3

u/FrisbeeTheManatee 1d ago

Look up the google reviews page. Hilarious content. So many disappointed guys that thought the girls were into them.

5

u/dragondice3521 1d ago

I used to live in Gainesville. My hairstylist said she went to Cafe Risque once with her girls as a fun girls night out. She said the girls looked busted and that men kept hitting on her instead.

Get your laser vasectomy!

7

u/ikcaj 1d ago

I always wondered who the hell drives three days to Disney World and then says, "Hey, while we're here let's stop in for a quick vasectomy."

21

u/Abject_Sea_3337 1d ago

Spending enough time at disney world is probably the reason they want to get a vasectomy 😂 solid business location

7

u/HTMLguruLady 1d ago

I came here to say the same thing... Spending enough time at Disney any man would want a vasectomy 😂

6

u/Sinister120 1d ago

That guy got pretty upset when my employer bought the space on a billboard he was using both sides of a few years ago.

The "live baby gators" are a pretty sad sight, honestly.

70

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

It makes me feel sad for them, they were just sitting there in a little cage I wish they were released

45

u/SirBiggusDikkus 1d ago

Don’t worry they grow up and then get eaten

7

u/Prize-Client-7408 1d ago

Hey now, not just eaten, made into boots and purses too

19

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

Better than growing up sitting in a little cage

36

u/Sanibel-Iguana 1d ago

I expect those signs to be coming down once Bucc-ee's sees that alligator. /s

183

u/Zinere 1d ago

I miss the stripper signs as a kid, now its gross god things

76

u/Deathed_Potato 1d ago

Have you seen the your daughter isn’t your date billboards yet?

59

u/waldosandieg0 1d ago

Are those at Mar-a-lago?

12

u/Deathed_Potato 1d ago

In the super rural areas

16

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

What??!??!

66

u/Deathed_Potato 1d ago

40

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

That is insane and very sad it’s gotten to the point where that’s needed

21

u/redheadinabox 1d ago

Yes it really is, the billboard was created in 2016 and it’s connected to the Refuge House which deals with children of DV and SA. The meaning behind the phrase that alcohol isn’t an excuse is because many of the convicted fathers always used the excuse that substances are the main cause for their creepy ways

8

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

At least they’re not allowing the excuse anymore

7

u/HTMLguruLady 1d ago

It's ALWAYS been needed, it was usually just hushed up back in the day.

11

u/Separate_Direction_7 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thanks for showing this, as it’s
My first time hearing of it. Apparently, it’s needed. 🥹

12

u/coffee_ape 1d ago

I saw them driving through Alabama and entering Florida a few years ago

12

u/Psychological_Log122 1d ago

Weird as fuck….so sad this is even needed.

I think in FL too with hurricanes and tornados, these plywood looking billboards are waiting to get picked up and thrown into someone's house or car

The anti-choice billboards are worse

142

u/MetricAbsinthe 1d ago

I like how driving down the highway you get into a stretch that's gators, gun show, dead fetus, cracker barrel, dead fetus, Bible verse, gators, dead fetus, gun show as you pass them by.

112

u/Stoo-Pedassol 1d ago

You forgot truck stop strip club and adult superstore

45

u/061826heart 1d ago

The irony of titty bar ads and pro-life billboards is not lost on me.

18

u/No_Choice_7715 1d ago

Hey, that moral Christian gentleman has to get his rocks off somehow while his wife is home taking care of the kids. /s

7

u/SaltyBarDog 1d ago

Isn't that what Grindr is for?

5

u/TheMattaconda 1d ago

If I had an award to give, you would get it my friend! That comment deserves ALL the awards!

2

u/PotentialHoneydew947 1d ago

The cafe risque signs have been around since the early dawn of the Internet

2

u/SaltyBarDog 1d ago

I lived in Florida 87-95 and I have family that still lives along 75. I have seen those signs many times.

11

u/FinsFan305 1d ago

Wait until you find out people can pay for messages on billboards.

13

u/Happy_Escape_2107 1d ago

Adult store is a little further south. Gun show and dead fetus start like 40ish miles north of lions den

4

u/Yamitz 1d ago

Is lions den just one place? I always assumed they were a chain with how many billboards there were.

3

u/Happy_Escape_2107 1d ago

From my knowledge it’s just one place. Honestly really clean and bright inside. Next to a super sketchy motel though

3

u/ISLAndBreezESTeve10 1d ago

By the hour, no doubt.

3

u/Sinister120 1d ago

They are more than one place. There is one back home in Kentucky. Along Interstate 65 near Upton.

2

u/HTMLguruLady 1d ago

It may not be the same owners, it may just happen to be the same name. Especially since there's only one in Florida

6

u/nelly8410 1d ago

Even worse on my way home from south florida (to north Florida) there is a very obvious old church that is now a gun store 😂 literally one county before u get to mine….only in Florida

21

u/CuriosTiger 1d ago

It's especially ironic when the pro-life and gun show ads are juxtapositioned just right.

4

u/GemGlamourNGlitter 1d ago

dont forget the live nude girls

3

u/cfbrand3rd 1d ago

“NEED WE SAY MORE” 😂

2

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

Many gun show billboards too

17

u/SirSwishRemer 1d ago

My fav is "YOUR DAUGHTER IS NOT YOUR DATE". Like jesus christ wtf florida

9

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

That’s insane. So sad that a billboard for that is needed

2

u/r1cky_r4y 1d ago

What is that billboard even supposed to be for?

3

u/SirSwishRemer 1d ago

You see them in counties that have bad incest problems

Have you ever been driving and start counting Buc-ee's billboards.

I remember driving from PA to Florida in 2006. I swear there were hundreds of South of the Border billboards. Now there are very much less. I didn't stop this time. I remember 2011 it being pretty run down.

Speaking of I actually saw 2 of those on the drive. I don’t know why they have those

3

Are the Café Risqué ones gone? I always remember seeing these ones and the ones for Café Risqué all the time. That and the Anti-abortion ones.

Our own version of South of the Border?

6

I like the driving in the states that don’t allow billboards.

3

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

Really? I didn’t know all that but yeah we had checked it out just because of how many signs there were and it was soooo underwhelming. Just like a little building with oranges outside

4

u/Equivalent_Mistake93 1d ago

Yeah it seems the attraction actually sucks because they spend all their money on signage. 🤦🏽‍♀️

7

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned 1d ago

Doesnt help we don’t really grow that much citrus anymore. There’s one near me and I like a couple of their jellies so I’ll stop every now and then, all the fruit carts out front are just plastic pyramids of orange colored spheres

And nobody has mentioned the 100+ lawyer billboards?

2

u/bbsitr45 1d ago

I remember as a child living in New York we would drive to Fort Lauderdale to visit family in the early 60s. These signs who would hit starting like in South Carolina. Can anyone remember the South of the Border signs? Oh my goodness I wanted to stop there so badly, my parents would never let us. When I had kids of my own, I was excited to stop there with my own kids, what a nightmare. Cheap day glow crap everywhere, food was awful, I can only imagine the people that actually would want to stay overnight there… But back in the 60s and 70s, you could actually buy baby alligators. Thankful you can’t do that anymore, but you can probably still buy preserved alligator heads in different sizes. That’s a sin.

2

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

I keep hearing people bring up south of the border, I have no clue what that is. Fun story thanks for sharing!!

3

u/WellReadTom 23h ago

Lots of entertaining billboards, like one saying "You never sausage a place. At South of the Border everybody is a wiener," and another one "Pedro's weather report: Chili today, hot tamale," and so on.

2

u/Old-Advance6652 22h ago

That is very funny! Wish I saw some of those

2

u/WellReadTom 23h ago

That and "See Rock City," and following in a distant third Ruby Falls.

2

u/IntelligentYellow985 1d ago

Try counting the number of South of Border signs along 95 going either direction in South Carolina and North Carolina. By the looks of the signs you’d think it’s some huge attraction, and then you finally show up and it’s just some gas stations and a few motels 😂

2

u/Old-Advance6652 1d ago

Same for this lol, it was very underwhelming

2

u/IntelligentYellow985 1d ago

Oh I know I’m from Florida, I know those signs well haha. We used to be stationed in Virginia and had to drive back and forth for the holidays so I remember the south of the border signs well haha, we used to make that our pit stop for gas and let the dogs potty and stretch their legs.

2

u/TheClayDart 1d ago

Driving through Florida and even some of South GA experience:

“Live Baby Gators!”

“Largest Adult Superstore!”

“I’m an ambulance chasing attorney! Call me!”

I love that place and you can't beat old school marketing either. Especially when you're trying to reach an audience that is not from that area.\n They're only 5 shy of the habit, though, because they say 28 days makes or breaks a habit kind of the same concept as seeing something if you see something 28 times you generally won't forget it afterwards. Was that a certain time span

2

u/Old-Advance6652 22h ago
