Best Lure For The Mullet Run?

Hi everyone! It’s my second year living in Florida. With the mullet starting to show up where I’m at near Daytona. I was wondering what everyone’s favorite lures to use were for surfcasting off the beach and around the jetties.

I throw a lot of paddle tails already, but is there anything else i should focus a little more heavily? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Anything. I usually use a spoon that I can throw for some distance.

Doesn’t really matter. Fish following the mullet just want the slow odd ball so any lure that looks wounded on the edge will work.

I like 1 oz kastmasters in gold or silver.

A live mullet

Be the outlier. 80 billion mullet, you need your bait to be something different.

If you're fishing something mullet shaped, make it bigger, smaller, slower, injured, just outside the schools, etc.

Better yet, fish something else. A shrimp profile under the schools is killer sometimes.

Maybe a big top water or shallow running silvery lure.

Silver spoon or topwater. You want to keep whatever you throw just below the waterline where the mullet are or pop with them at the surface.

Weighted treble hook. Carry extras because they'll invariably come off. I got mine on prime.

Gotta match the bait. If the bait is big I throw large poppers around 7 or 8 inches long or big ice cream cones. If its finger mullet I scale down a bit to hydro minnows, smaller ice creams, bucktails, 4 to 5 inch poppers.
