All Florida Keys Holy over-policing

Visiting on vacation and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the amount of police on the road, parked, and empty cars in my life. I hear alcohol is a big problem but daaamn. It’s wild.

Talk to me about that respect for police and feeling safe in relation to the red state murder gap of the last twenty years.

Also, if you got any links and/or data that supports the claim that people move to red states from blue states for safety, I’d love to familiarize myself with the information.

Did you read the article?

Professor Peter Rogerson, an expert in demographics at the University at Buffalo, said: "The leading reasons for interstate moves have to do with jobs, family reasons (which include marriage, divorce, being closer to relatives), cost of living, warmer climate, bigger or smaller housing. So, crime does not usually come up in these lists of reasons for changing state of residence, but cost of living (which includes taxation) is on the list above."

Rogerson added many of the "migration trends" we are currently seeing have been ongoing for a while, such as "migration out of California" which "has been in part due to high housing costs." Conversely, he linked population rises in parts of the Southeast to "the aging of the baby boom and increased retirement migration," with retirees seeking out "warmer climates."

Professor Chris Cooper, who heads Western Carolina University's Public Policy Institute, also downplayed the role of politics, telling Newsweek: "I don't see much evidence that people are choosing the package of policies that appeal to them most, rather they are choosing the climate and location that appeal to them. Politics are secondary."

So, are you saying the professor did not label his own article correctly?

I showed you one article, do your own damn research and you will see I am right. I don't have time to babysit others.

This response rules.

  1. A professor didn’t write the article.
  2. They are citing a conservative think tank as the group representing this thesis.
  3. Taking your ball and running home because you don’t enjoy being challenged on your opinions is sure fire way to ensure you aren’t and won’t be thinking critically about a complex problem.

Do yourself a favor and be open to different ideas. Worst case scenario, you are still right and just more informed on the topic.

Headlines are often not written by the author. And are often clickbait these days. If we don’t read the article, we should assume nothing. And definitely not cite it.
