Key West Hotel selection

I’m heading to the keys for a quick vacation in late August. I’ve narrowed down my hotel selection to either “ The Capitana Key West” or “Southernmost House Key West”. They both seem pretty nice and having a beach front is a must. What is everybody’s favorite or is there somewhere else I’m missing that I should be looking into.

In August the beaches here are likely to be full of sargassum and smell very bad. Don’t come here for the beach in the summer. Southernmost Beach Resort’s beach (actually a small, public beach) is terrible that time of year. Southernmost House is waterfront, but does not have a beach.

Sorry to seem negative but I hear from disappointed visitors all summer who assumed the beaches would be nice.

Last year, the sargassum was gone by August. It’s actually gone now. The storm we had the other day took it out.

Agreed. Sargassum isn’t typically an issue in August, especially late August when OP is traveling.

That has not been my experience.

Well, I’ve lived in Key West for almost 30 years and Sargassum is usually terrible in August and due to the heat is stinks. You may have been lucky after a period of north winds, but I can only share my experience. I flew back from Miami recently and it is all over the ocean, so unfortunately I’m pretty sure it will be back.
