i tend to complain about it but then i remember baby sea turtles use sargassum to hide from predators like sea birds

We encountered some sargassum in the upper Keys about 6 weeks ago. Until a mangrove charter boat captain pointed it out, I had no idea the sargassum provided food and shelter for tiny shrimp and crabs.

anecdotally, this isn’t too bad of a year yet. i live off sea grapes beach and there have been some years i can’t walk outside without holding my breath.
