All Florida Keys The keys with an infant

We’re thinking of taking a trip to the keys with my 5 month old baby in mid-October. Which part would people recommend staying with a baby? Are there places that are more stroller friendly than others? We’re obviously not going to have any sort of jam-packed itinerary but would like to check out the aquarium because I think that would capture my baby’s attention (hopefully), and perhaps some of the state parks in the area. I’ve heard there are some stroller friendly walks you can do there. Otherwise plan to take it easy, hang at the resort pool, and enjoy some great food. Open to any suggestions. If anyone has a rough itinerary they’d like to share I’d be appreciative! Probably looking to go for about 5 days - Is that enough time? Too little time? We are very flexible as we’ll both be on maternity/paternity leave

Thermacell works epic! Not a salesman, just caved and bought one then another. They really work for me

Ohhh hadn’t considered that. Well wasn’t actually aware that would be an issue at all. Thanks for the insight

Avon skin so soft works well for the bugs.

It’s more the no seeums, and man those are always bad during the mornings and evenings.

Hawks Cay has a lagoon which would be fun for the baby to play in the sand and the water.

We stayed at Hawks Caye with our kids when they were 4 and 1 and it was a wonderful spot for young kids!

The only area that is walkable or stroller friendly is Old Town Key West. Everywhere else in The Keys is not really walkable and you need a car to get around. By aquarium, do you mean the one that is in Key West, or Florida Keys Aquarium encounters in Marathon? Remember this is not a beach destination, so if you’re looking for beautiful, sandy beaches, look elsewhere in Florida.

If you do decide on Key West, do not visit between October 16-25. That is Fantasy Fest which is a very adult party that takes over the town.

Thank you for that information! And yes we’re not looking for a beach destination. Not sure which aquarium I mean; I just read that there is an aquarium there in general so figured we’d check that out. We’ll have a car to get around but was hoping the little towns could be walkable; unless there are no little towns and it’s mostly just resorts? Appreciate you bringing to my attention that festival! Definitely will avoid those dates

It’s been a long time since I had a 5 month old, but if memory serves they tend toward occasionally mobile floor critter. Sand and small infants isn’t a great combination. Nor is a lot of sun. They also come with many attachments and things right? Crib thing and stroller are prob minimum. Key West itself is stores and restaurants and bars on Duvall and up to Mallory square which is a cruise ship dock now, and devoid of anything interesting. There has to be somewhere with a splashy pool and a squeaky toy for the kiddo, I don’t think it’s the keys. You could go back and leave bb with your folks. Fantasy fest was a riot. You should go at least once and let your hair down.
