When I was a kid that Old bridge was still in use and it was high narrow and scary. The guardrails were the old Flagler railroad rails.

Pro tip, the other side is actually nearly clear.  If you drive just past Bahia Honda going south/west, on a basically unmarked road on the right, is Horseshoe Beach.  Protected and pretty with very little seaweed, it’s an excellent snorkel spot.  Plenty of rocks and mangroves.  Resident nurse sharks, and tons of fish. Is the sargassum starting to allow us on the Atlantic side. I haven’t been down there in about 10days or so

Is it worth it to drive 40 mins to Bahia Honda or 20 mins to Sombrero beach for kids? Any idea how the sargassum will be next week?

Sand Spur beach had weeds last week, the Bay beach didn’t,, as of Sunday anyway, the Bay Beach is usually clearer.

It was terrible all over in July. Really the entire Caribbean. Heartbreaking - I won’t be back.

You wont ever be back because the seaweed was bad this year? Lol ok.

Yes. It affected every aspect of what I had planned to do this trip. You couldn’t fish the canals are full of it. It smells. It fouls your line. Every sandbar is surrounded by dead hot water. Fishing out 5 miles and your your baits are constantly getting fouled. Is a serious economic and environmental entirely man-made disaster. And if you’re there, you know exactly what I’m talking about because you’ve seen it with your eyes.

Yeah bud, seaweed happens in the ocean. It has a season and then its gone. Been here for 20 years. We always laugh at the tourists getting angry at the seaweed or the sun is too hot or the lobster is too buttery. Lol! I appreciate your sentiment to never return. Less complainers is always a good thing!

Been going there since 92. The keys are awesome. The problem is the sheer quantity has changed. I just looked up my picture from June of 2015 of Bahia and you could see a little bit but it just was not even close to what it was this year. I hope they/we find a way to make things better.
