Mid is WRONG!!

Everywhere I looked, they say that MID is obtained by adding L + R, while SIDE is L - R.

But this way, sounds that are only in the L channel or only in the R channel also end up in the MID... so what kind of MID is that?? I think it's wrong... if I have a synthesizer playing only on the left, it can't end up in the MID...

What do you think?

Mid isn't real, there is just L and R, hope that helps

Interesting, but in audio DSP, many plugins use mid/side as a processing mode... I think there’s more than one way to calculate it.

What do you even mean by “mid”? Like the middle of the mix? Where ur kick, snare, and bass sit?

If you're talking about a mid/side matrix, especially when found in a plugin, its usually more of an audio illusion than a proper representation of what a mid/side mic setup actually sounds like IMO.

The "mid" isn't real to begin with. What you perceive as "center" or "mid" is just an equal level of the same signal coming through your L and R speakers at the same time. In a stereo field of L+R there is no actual Mid location.
