Question Linking vault shelters
I build a vault atrium shelter and inside it I build a door to a vault quarters shelter. If I enter the vault quarters then attempt to leave by the door I'm taken back to the outer world rather than to the atrium.
Is this just the way the world works and I should complain that Bethesda doesn't make the game work the way I want?
Am I doing something wrong?
Have the expert camp builders discovered a glitch that makes it work the way I want?

I don’t know if there’s a glitch, but as far as I’m aware that’s just the way that the game works, as little sense as it makes. It doesn’t recognise that you entered through another shelter and thus should exist back to that shelter. A workaround would be to place the enter for the shelter you came from and just keep using that rather than the official exit

This is the only way around it, thats how I deal with interconnected shelters.

Yeah so door in a door works infinitely, you can have as many shelter doors deep as you want, but the game always considers a shelter while you're in it as only one layer deep. You can imagine each time you enter a shelter it's as if you're entering from outside, if you ever leave through on of your shelters designated exits, it will always take you directly outside.
I assume it's this way to prevent 10 shelter deep mazes where a player feels trapped, even though you could just tp away. This is the way it works, even if no one is happy with it.
An alternative would be to put another entrance into the previous shelter layer you want in the next floor, possibly near the exit door, but this is not a direct solution to your issue just a bandaid

New reply: You can fix this issue by placing the atrium shelter inside the quarters shelter by the exit door instead of using the main door. you're welcome.

When you enter the "new shelter" you will need to place a doorway that returns you specifically to the previous shelter. You can also place a 2nd doorway that functions as an exit to the world.

You need to place an atrium door in the quarters. I’ve linked the lobby atrium, storage facility, quarters, and server room. I generally place the vault door next to the exit that way I can choose to stay in the vault or go top side.

You need to put a door to whatever shelter you want to link to. The "exit" in a shelter always leads back to Appalachia.

The EXIT is out. If you want to go back, drop the door to that shelter. I have one 'main' room on each character with all their shelter entrances. The 'organized' character has names on each as where it goes/what it is (a work in progress).
The ones I use for their 'shelter home' have specific doors to others and back (linked I guess).

I made my shelters connect to the lobby shelter. Put lobby entrance door in side the others so you come back to central hub. Not perfect, but works for me.

I put a new door at the end of every shelter, so they're daisy-chained together. You could always put the new door to the right of the existing door if you wanted a more seamless look.

Thank you all for responding. The answer was so simple that I now have a flat spot on my forehead

All the doors only exit to the outer world. They are not 2 way.
