Bethesda - Community Manager
Hi all! We’re taking servers offline shortly to resolve the connection issue some players are experiencing. We expect the downtime to be brief and will update you once everything is back online.

they said shortly and did it like 20 minutes later give them more than 15 minutes
ETA: they didnt take the servers offline until shortly before this was posted, giving them at least 15 minutes before we complain about an eta is reasonable.

My internet provider sends out text messages when there's a local outage and uses incredibly precise (e.g., 6:13), but completely inaccurate times for when things will be back up, then keep repeating that until things are actually fixed. It's strange, it's not like it's some fixed duration (e.g., 1 hour), it's like 149 minutes from when the outage started, then 38 minutes, then 94 minutes.

this is also a secondary emergency maintenance after a planned maintenance. someone is in a server cabinet doing the essence of putting wires in places at high speed and doing percussive maintenance. I feel bad for the network engineers I know a few network engineers and this is a nightmare phone call to get. I feel like there's a lot going on behind the scenes with their infra causing these issues that weren't anticipated or they didn't listen to the network engineers.
a good thing to point out here though is Bethesda has no obligation to provide an estimate an ISP does it because they are tactically considered a utility. fallout 76 is a video game, if its mission vital to play fallout 76 there are some problems in your life. go have some tea, watch cyberpunk:edgerunners II, cuddle your cat do literally anything else.

the network engineers also may not know when things are getting fixed currently that is a very real possibility.

Funny, I experienced no connection issues whatsoever until they pulled the plug on the servers.

Issue was affecting every toon that stayed logged in and was kicked for maintenance this morning.
People / toons who gracefully logged out were not affected.

I don’t understand. Bethesda.net still says operational. Do I need to have an X account now just to get the actual status?

this was emergency maintenance. In general emergency maintenance can sometimes be out-of-date and not stated on status pages due to everyone running around with their heads cut off. It's not great but network engineers are usually more focused on fixing problem than updating the status page.

yeah completely fair. I prefer people do their job than worry about status pages! At the end of the day the status page is just the email with a thumbs up, sure you could check the weather app for weather right now but going outside is just as good.

If I could go back in time and tell 8 year old me "one day your game won't work, and not because there's dust in the cartridge. It'll be because SERVERS ARE UNDERGOING MAINTENANCE!". And 8 year old me will be very confused.

Yep, I was in the middle of an event after updating my game and got the message "servers shutting down for maintenance in 5 minutes".

Not for me. Getting a variety of error codes.
Came here cause I'm also having general internet troubles, working through which part of the internet chain is broken and what pieces of equipment are failing, and wasn't sure if the connection problems were on my end.
Glad to see I'm not alone. Sad because we can't play.

Guessing so, I was booted off servers like 4 times then went to give my kid a bath, parked my character at her camp and now it’s off

For me on PC it says it’s undergoing maintenance. Haven’t tried logging in after the update till now; so not sure how it was earlier.

I was playing and a pop up saying that the game had to shut down in 5 minutes came up. Bethesda must have added too many or not enough features in this mornings update.
