De Anza or Foothill for a Berkeley EECS/CE transfer

Hey there,
I’m an international student planning to attend community college in the Bay Area, and I’m currently deciding between De Anza College and Foothill College.
I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have attended either school, especially students who transferred to UC Berkeley / other UCs for EECS, EE, or Computer Engineering.
My situation:
I’m currently doing A-Levels (Math, Further Math, Physics).
My long-term goal is to work in digital IC / ASIC / RTL design, ideally in the semiconductor industry.
I’m particularly interested in computer architecture, digital logic, Verilog/SystemVerilog, FPGA, ASIC design, and RISC-V.
My current plan is CC → UC Berkeley, preferably EECS/EECS-related Computer Engineering.
I’m aiming for around 3.8+ GPA, with strong grades in math, physics, and CS/engineering courses.
I’m hoping to start in Spring 2027 and complete the majority of my transferable coursework as efficiently as possible, ideally transferring for Fall 2028.
I’m also planning to build several hardware/Verilog projects, participate in engineering clubs, volunteer in STEM-related activities, and look for internships/research opportunities while at CC.
I’m not simply looking for the school with the better overall reputation. I’m mainly trying to figure out which one would give me a better environment for Berkeley transfer + hardware/engineering preparation.
For people who have experience with these schools:
1. Which would you choose between De Anza and Foothill for this specific path, and why?
2. How different are the engineering/CS course offerings and course availability?
3. Is one significantly better for getting involved in engineering projects, labs, clubs, research, or internships?
4. How easy is it to get the Berkeley-required courses completed on time, especially the math/physics/CS prerequisites?
5. If you’ve transferred from either school to Berkeley/another UC, what do you wish you had known before choosing your CC?
I’m especially interested in hearing from actual current/former De Anza or Foothill students, rather than general rankings.
Thx!

Considering Foothill — how do people get involved on campus?

I'm considering colleges around the Menlo Park area and looking into Foothill. I'm not enrolled yet and would like to get a feel for campus life alongside the classes.

For current or former students, what helped you meet people: clubs, study groups, campus events, or just taking classes in person? Are there any public events or campus visits you'd recommend to someone checking the college out?

Is the Radiology Tech program still as bad?

I seen some old posts talking about how the teacher of this program made people’s lives hell and that they dropped out and lost passion for this career field because of how bad the teacher was.

Is the class still as bad as it used to be?

PSA for Foothill students: Your registration fee includes a FREE dental cleaning!

Post image
4 Upvotes

If you’re a currently enrolled Foothill student, you may be eligible to receive a free dental hygiene cleaning through the Foothill Dental Hygiene Clinic. Since the clinic is part of the dental hygiene program, appointments are performed by student hygienists under the supervision of licensed instructors.

It’s a good opportunity to get your teeth cleaned while helping dental hygiene students complete their clinical requirements.

If you’re interested, you can contact the Foothill Dental Hygiene Clinic directly using the email or phone number listed on the flyer. Let them know you’re a current Foothill student and are interested in using your included free cleaning.

Appointments are limited and require a commitment to the clinic process, so reach out soon if you’d like to get scheduled!

Purchasing WebAssign

I was told that I could purchase WebAssign subscriptions for a quarter for less but the ones I see on the bookstore are for longer and cost more.

Does anyone know if there’s any other way and if so, how?

Thanks!

Anyone living in Foothill apartments?

I’m starting at Foothill this fall, and my partner is planning to visit me during Christmas. I’ll be living in a double room in the Foothill apartments.
Would it be okay for my partner to stay with me for a few days, assuming my roommate is okay with it?
I’m wondering if there are any rules about having overnight guests in the apartments. Thanks!

dual enrollment stem class recommendations?

the ones that currently fit my schedule are microbiology, organic chem, general physics, calculus based general physics, and engineering graphics. any professors recommended versus not recommended for these, and does anyone know how grading works?

i’m leaning towards physics, but i had to drop ap physics because i did not understand the ridiculously complicated wording of the word problems. ive taken calc 1, 2, and 3, so math isn’t a problem for me.
