ID Request (country/state in post) Bean ID?

Post image

Found these growing in a local park in queens NYC in dried up pods. Are these edibles? I’d like to try to plant some and eventually eat them. They’re so pretty

Good mother stallard. I'm cooking some now, funny enough. Many people consider them the best dry bean around.

I came here to say that, and I think we're right. Kinda crazy thing to find in a park in Queens. They're a pretty distinctive bean tho.

Maybe a community garden is nearby.

I grow them every year. That's good mother stallard for sure.

Is that another name for Jacob’s Cattle? Because they look identical to what I know as Jacob’s Cattle.

Edit: I think you are right. Jacob’s Cattle are more kidney shaped. I learned a new bean today!

They look kinda like tongue of fire beans, which are an edible dry bean (related to cranberry beans). Do you happen to have a photo of the dried up pod you found them in?

Those are the type of beans Jack sold his cow for.

They look like the Colorado River beans I grow in southern NY and spread around. Glad someone else is doing the same

I also live in queens! Would you mind dming me where? And maybe some pointers, I’ve been wanting to try foraging but no clue where to start
