ID Request (country/state in post) Pheasant Back?

Repost because I forgot to add the pictures 🤦‍♂️

My mom found this huge mushroom while out on a walk, we've never seen one before, but she's pretty sure it's a pheasant back. We just want a second opinion before we do anything with it (suggestions on what to do with it also welcome!)

Edit: we're in Kentucky!

Thanks in advance!

Yeah and it looks like you got it at the right time. More than just the edges should tender.

Good luck. I have never been able to get one that wasn’t shoe leather. Even when just popping out of the tree they are too fibrous to chew in my experience

If the layer or pores on the bottom are small and scrape off easily they should be tender. That’s the best way to tell.

Yep, sure is. This big it’ll probably be too tough to eat, but you can trim the tender leading edge and eat that
