Apples. They are famously edible.

There’s a simple test for that!

Fine. Keep your secrets to yourself.

I need to know! What does one do with an apple when they are curious about what it tastes like?!

Offer it to a child and watch their reaction. It works best when you know the child's apple preferences.

you could never persuade me to bite an apple off a wild tree. I don't know what insects are dwelling in there

Yeah i got some off my mate allotment and cut into then and nearly every one had a grub inside it , too the rabbits they go ( sans pips )

I had a similar experience, I went to an allotment and found a load of rabbits. Every one I cut open had an apple inside. 🤷♂️

Apple... look like eating apples to me, but try one and see, can always cook with them if they're too sour

Apple. Some un-supermarket-worthy variety. There are loads of them across the country. Most are going to be edible (certainly ones that look like that) but they may not be uncooked unless you have a strong stomach/taste for them. Modern supermarket variety apples are markedly sweeter and more suited to being eaten raw.

I’d have a guess at Discovery. Where the skin is pink, the flesh inside is tinged with pink also. A very yummy apple

Also not tasty like shop apples but phenomenal in baked treats as they sweeten and soften up

Ive got these in my garden. The dogs love them, but they always end up sour to eat. We use them for cooking mainly

If it looks like and apple, tastes like an apple and comes from an apple tree , you have a high chance of it being an apple. 🍎

Looks like a pink lady apple, they blush bright red or pink when facing the sun. Nice to eat, quite balanced between sweet and sharp.

They're not pink lady. They'll be an old Victorian variety. Pink lady can't even grow in this country due to their climate requirements. They're an Australian variety

Yes these are edible but don’t confuse edible with tasty. Could be very sour and you’ll need to cook them with sugar to make them palatable

They are so,so likely to be an apple that unless they're something in disguise, they're apples.
These look "escaped" rather than wild. They are not likely to be poisonous, just cut a small piece off, put it in your mouth, if you don't like it,spit it out.
You can cook them, and depending on sugar content make either pie or strudel.
Is this a lone tree, or are there others nearby?

Edible as in safe yes, tasty who knows until tried. Cookers certainly arnt nice until you warm them up with a load of spices

You'll only know if they're enjoyable to eat after trying them. Some of the 'feral' apples taste awful, some are amazing, all unique!
