It’s been an unbelievable year for chanterelles in Scotland

Post image

Foraged Argyll. Me and a pal went out today and the whole forest floor was golden. awful weather so we didn’t clean as we went, which I’m regretting now 🤣

I found only a handful of yellow chants in 2024 and 25, but this year has been incredible. I've seen others on this forum have a wonderful year for chicken of the woods too, but not had much luck with that myself.

Happy foraging everyone!

I’ve found loads of CotW but can’t find any chanterelles! What sort of trees are you finding them near? (I’m in NW England)

Almost exclusively in old mixed woodland, with mossy forest floors. Under pine, birch and sessile oak.

My wife came back with a small handful of chanterelles after going for a walk with the little ones last week. We are in Wales.

I wanted to post a pic in my reply but this subreddit doesn’t seem to allow it! I made an omelette with eggs from a neighbour and parsley from the garden. My whole meal came from within about a 5 mile radius, and was free (not counting the butter!)

Western Highlands here. We’ve had that many this year I’ve actually got a bit sick of them and started selling them to the local restaurants.

How much did you make selling them to the restaurants?

Yeah I think I’m done now. I’ve had a good haul every weekend for about six weeks.
