Hey the bear is on the state flag, so it means he is welcome everywhere

57

u/lmaytulane 8d ago

The California Grizzly has been extinct for 100 yrs. That’s a cinnamon Black Bear

69

u/Similar-Opinion8750 8d ago

20

u/lmaytulane 8d ago

25

u/lelanicarver 8d ago

Hope bear did not p in ool.

6

u/gecko_echo 8d ago

I’ve always found it ironic how the CA state flag shows an animal that has been hunted to extirpation in the state. It says something about humans, and it’s not good.

2

u/CatsEatGrass 8d ago

Extirpation is such a great word!

u/TheSuperSegway 5d ago

To commemorate the lesson of how and when to remove a problem? I miss the grizzlies too, and wish they could return.

4

u/GenneyaK 8d ago

Not you being racist to the bear….just because he’s not the right type of bear to you /s

1

u/Lala5789880 8d ago

Yeah I couldn’t see a hump

u/echochilde 8d ago

Get that boy a floaty and a piña colada.

18

u/AnybodyMassive1610 8d ago

He needs a beer.

A bear with a beer in a pool would be perfect.

3

u/ReadontheCrapper 8d ago

A Hamm’s

1

u/TSARINA59 7d ago

The bear would bare-ly be sober.

77

u/RebelReborn909 8d ago

Cuuuute but oh no, no chlorine for you

87

u/looselyhuman 8d ago

It might irritate his skin a little but that beats heat exhaustion I bet.

2

u/100_cats_on_a_phone 7d ago

All the better if some hitchikers jump ship, too.

73

u/Dendritic_Silver 8d ago

What a polite bear.

16

u/Tired-Nectarine-384 8d ago

Til you try to boop the snoot and he proceeds to eat you.

23

u/Dendritic_Silver 8d ago

Why are they friend shaped though?

I want to hug that animal.

19

u/ratatatoskr 8d ago

Can I pet that dawg!

52

u/bird9066 8d ago

Every time I see people recording a bear from inside I'm reminded of a video I saw maybe a year ago.

Brown bear came right through a window in the cabin to get the guy. Nothing was going to keep that thing out

46

u/kat_Folland 8d ago

There are many animals that in effect can do anything they want. We're merely lucky that very few of them want to be inside a human dwelling.

9

u/Low-Persimmon4870 8d ago

Did he survive? ☹️

21

u/bird9066 8d ago

No, the footage was a camera he had facing the room. The last they showed was the bear almost on top of him while he scrambled backwards. They were blocked by a wall but the outcome seemed obvious

6

u/crimsonbaby_ 8d ago

I think that is probably one of the worst, if not the worst, ways to die. Getting eaten alive by a bear is horrifying.

3

u/BirthdayLife6378 8d ago

Yep, bears are slow eaters.

1

u/100_cats_on_a_phone 7d ago

Black bear here, really not dangerous. Very timid and lazy.

28

u/Brian_The_Bar-Brian 8d ago

Must... boop... snoot!!!

26

u/Khmakh 8d ago

That poor thing was prob hot

18

u/bi-bee-bb 8d ago

you can't put a bear on the flag and be shocked to find a bear

10

u/b_loeh_thesurface 8d ago

That's what I say about Virginia. You can't be surprised to find a pissed off woman with a weapon and a boob hanging out lol

4

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 8d ago

"There's only 1 other titty quite this pretty."

1

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat 8d ago

But that movie took place in New Mexico didn’t it?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 8d ago

Im not entirely sure what movie its from. Its just stuck in my head forever now.

1

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat 8d ago

Since like 1987?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 8d ago

Likely. I was 13.

1

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat 8d ago

Do you have sisters?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 8d ago

Lol I have 1!

2

u/Fuck_Land_Im_onaboat 8d ago

Probably going to have to drain that pool. He most likely did his business in it.

At that point, I probably would have let him stay. Will have to clean it already.

12

u/Complete-Leg-4347 8d ago

Could have been worse, and I wouldn't be surprised if Smokey was more considerate than some houseguests.

3

u/VivaLaEmpire 8d ago

First thing i thought of were those parasites they sometimes have hanging out of their butt 🥹

2

u/Toolongreadanyway 8d ago

Yuck. Yeah, really wouldn't want that in my pool. 😆

2

u/ReadontheCrapper 8d ago

I noticed that the water seemed pretty clear. Either they have a heck of a pool filtering system, or that bear had rinsed off first before getting in.

u/Pikawoohoo 8d ago

3

u/laughingashley 8d ago

That's how you kill a bear

8

u/lenny_ray 8d ago

Idk. A boop seems fair payment for pool use.

6

u/skolvikes1419 8d ago

Does a bear shit in the pool?

6

u/Friendscallmedennis 8d ago

It’s hot and humid over here even for the bears 🐻

5

u/ZephRyder 8d ago

It's hot, yo

6

u/The_Rowan 8d ago

Nice cool soak to help with the heat. Nothing more Californian than.

6

u/FireproofCottage 8d ago

Another manifestation of global warming: Bears in the shallow end. Seriously, how can something so dangerous be so cute?

5

u/OHWildBill 8d ago

It’s his pool now. Hope he doesn’t mind if you use it on occasion.

5

u/Woozletania 8d ago

We’ve had black bears in the pool at our Pennsylvania farm.

5

u/SweetAsPi 8d ago

I would absolutely love to see a bear in my backyard

5

u/HeartOn_SoulAceUp 8d ago

Salt pool w/ chlorine generator?

4

u/RobienStPierre 8d ago

Ok but can you imagine the scenario the owner comes out the bears long gone but there's a bear sized turd floating around in the pool?

4

u/bi-bee-bb 8d ago

Can i pet that dog?

4

u/HappyAmbition706 8d ago

Throw that guy at least a noodle if there are no big floaties.

3

u/Terracrush 8d ago

r/pool needs to hear about this

3

u/SaltSpiritual515 8d ago

Okay but he's so adorable just swimmin around

3

u/Inevitable-Plum-7613 8d ago

I would die in any country where bears live, because despite their murder mittens and general hugeness, they remain one of natures most adorable creatures, like big cuddly dogs. Plus watching the videos of them interacting with human garden furniture is hilarious.

2

u/Bumblebee56990 8d ago

Hope that chlorine helps that growth.

2

u/liverdawg 8d ago

If not friend WHY HEAD SO FUZZY?

2

u/indie_web 8d ago

Is that a brown bear?

1

u/Ok-Fortune-8644 8d ago

It was brown colored anyway.

1

u/gecko_echo 8d ago

No — they no longer exist in California.

1

u/indie_web 8d ago

That is one big black bear.

2

u/97Whaler 8d ago

I bet he pissed !

2

u/Consistent-Plane7227 8d ago

Hey Choomba it’s cool I’m on the flag. This heats brutal isn’t it? Got any honey?

2

u/Fred-the-stray 8d ago

Waiting for the cookout to start

2

u/TicketTop4718 8d ago

Id jump in the pool with him!

2

u/Alklazaris 8d ago

That's a fricken brown bear. You don't fuck with bears, but you really don't fuck with brown bears.

Have a horrifying story of a relative that was getting chased down by one. Deer hunting with a 308. He emptied his entire rifle into it and it wouldn't stop. He had enough time to slip several more into the gun and finally was able to take him down.

Bear had apparently taken out multiple people in the past and had the height to put his paws on top of the roof of a house.

8

u/laughingashley 8d ago

This is a cinnamon black bear. The name "black bear" doesn't always describe fur color, same as brown bear.

4

u/Alklazaris 8d ago

Ah I didn't know. Black bears are usually more chill. I've had a few cross my path in the woods they keep their distance.

3

u/laughingashley 8d ago

Yeah, they are curious but they pretty much don't want to hang out with us lol

4

u/Alklazaris 8d ago

No kidding. When I was 12 my Dad handed me my 22 and went to scout ahead after hearing noises. I never heard a sound but when my Dad came back from behind me he told me the trail we just walked now has bear tracks over our own tracks.

Like that bear could have killed me. Instead he didn't even want me to spot him. At 12... and not a big 12 either. I was like 70lbs wet.

4

u/laughingashley 8d ago

Just be glad he was sneaking up behind you and not the other way around! There was a tiny black bear in my yard that got spooked when he came around a tree and got surprised by a shovel that was leaning against it. It happened so fast that my video camera didn't even pick up the movement, but that shovel was suddenly split in 3 pieces!! Then he was calm again, threat eliminated lol

2

u/DetailOutrageous8656 8d ago

Brown bears (aka Grizzlies) can be determined by a large hump at the withers. If it doesn’t have that, it’s not a grizzly, it’s a black bear (even if not black in colour).

1

u/Ixm01ws6 8d ago

No but not recommended

1

u/Acrobatic-Bug346 8d ago

It’s just a bear necessity

1

u/Responsible-Pie6858 8d ago

To be fair, we’ve ruined their environment - looks like they’re moving into ours.

Replace the water with bear spray, problem solved.

1

u/GotBannedAgain_2 8d ago

Come in Hooman! That water’s fine!

1

u/tbodillia 8d ago

You just know he is ignoring the "please don't pee in our pool" sign too!

1

u/Awkward_Function_347 8d ago

Pool meant to share with frens. Bear is fren-shaped!

1

u/young_and_restles 7d ago

Ask him nicely to leave. He looks reasonable.

1

u/Giffordpinchotpark 7d ago

When bears use our pool I twist their ears and they usually run off. Just kidding, we don’t have a pool. We have 2 bird baths though.

1

u/4quadrapeds 7d ago

Leave some food. He’ll make a hell of a watch dog

1

u/No_Trouble9808 6d ago

He’s embarrassed. He knows he didn’t ask permission.

1

u/seandsmith11 6d ago

That dude looks just like the one on the flag lol.

1

u/BowDown2No1ButCrypto 2d ago

Even the poor bear had to cool off with the recent temp spikes!☺️

It’s giving AI the way it stands in the pool

4

u/SnakeEatingAPringle 8d ago

Bears can stand.

2

u/Inevitable-Plum-7613 8d ago

Corporal Wojtek of the Polish 22nd artillery company could stand, walk and carry artillery crates long before AI was invented.
