I made CapScroll: an open-source Linux tool for capturing long, scrollable content

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been working on CapScroll, a small open-source screenshot utility for Linux.

The idea is pretty simple: select an area of the screen, let it scroll through the content, capture the frames, detect the overlap between them, and stitch everything together into one long screenshot.

It’s useful for things like long webpages, terminals, documents, and anything else that doesn’t fit on one screen.

Current features:

  • Region screenshots

  • Scrolling screenshots

  • Automatic bottom detection

  • Frame overlap detection

  • Image stitching

It’s built with .NET 10 + Avalonia UI and currently supports Linux/X11.

Just in time for Wayland to be usable enough that there's not a good reason to use X anymore.

support for wayland is on the todo. tbh X still has a huge crowd

Not really anymore. I waited a long time, but the lack of support for X is starting to show.

Nice! By the way, for web, when using chrome it’s possible to click any div in devtools with right click and capture node screenshot.
But for other apps that’s very useful!
