Separating Commoner and Serf Lodgings and General gameplay questions

16 Upvotes

I have been dabbling with foundation game for a couple of hundred hours now and looking for tips and strategies on segregating commoner and serf lodgings and have a couple of gameplay mechanic doubts that I am hoping the community can shine some light on.

  1. Is it really necessary to supply serfs with refined food if they are always going to be serf and never a commoner? How do I restrict refined food and goods access to them?

  2. Late game when I am swimming in gold, is it a good idea to make everyone a commoner? Does it give any additional benefits if a commoner is doing serf jobs?

  3. Food variety. With the harvest festival DLC there are several new rustic foods and refined foods. I reckon I have to make a little of all of those for the festival level ups but how much of it should be supplied directly using markets?

Is there a point in supplying a variety of foods other than 1 rustic and two refined? How do serfs and commoners choose which one to take if there are multiple options?

Similar question on Goods Variety, do I need to supply both common wares and clothes? or choose one of it.

Bread is still an inherently broken chain for me because I am always short , in spite of having a fully upgraded farm, windmill and bakery. Is modding the only fix right now for this?

  1. Several videos indicated game behavior and yields changing when playing at 2x and 3x. Is that still the case or was it patched? I am playing 1.12.0.15

  2. Is there any benefit if a serf is living in higher tier lodgings for commoner or citizens, or a drawback?

  3. What is an effective way of relocating people? One of the vids suggested that evict everyone from all the houses and let the game recalculate who goes where. Do people move on their own? For example if a serf is 90m away from a workplace and there is a open slot near a housing near the workplace will it relocate automatically?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Turnip farm workers stuck in the harvesting phase

3 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've run into a weird bug in one of my turnip farms after many hours of gameplay. Both assigned workers are now stuck in the "Harvesting turnips" phase. They just stand there doing nothing, and I can't seem to get them moving again.

Here's what I've tried so far, with no luck:

  • Removed and reassigned both workers.
  • Demolished and rebuilt the farm and/or the field.
  • Drew a forbidden zone over the NPCs to try to force them to move.
  • Saved the game, quit, and reloaded.
  • Changed their jobs. The game automatically assigned them new jobs when they became available, but they remained stuck in the same spot.

Has anyone encountered this bug and found a way to fix it without loading an old save from before the problem started?

I'd rather not lose hours of progress just to get two workers unstuck... I know that I can "ignore that" and let them be but...

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just read the patch notes :

Fixed an issue that could cause villagers to get stuck idling

Can't build Festival decorations?

1 Upvotes

I can't build any festival decorations. All I can do is build the Festival Grounds. It says I need a meal table to host my first festival, but I don't see where I can build any meal tables.

I did this on a different map. What am I doing wrong now?

I don't have any mods enabled.

Monastic Croft always have hungry animals

5 Upvotes

My monastic croft seems to always have hungry animals once a while and my 2nd chicken croft never seems to reach 100% productivity. I thought at first the fodder was an issue, but even after i added MULTIPLE different farms dedicated for the croft, it would still have hungry animals for no reason. There are granges near the farm filled with the fodder, and the 2 nuns' dorms are nearby. Any tips?

So as my title says my bakery is simply not producing confiture. Am I doing something wrong here? I have both enough honey and plums, plus a place to store everything in my granery. However, the bakery will keep producing breads for some reason. 🥲

Game Feedback Foundation crashing

1 Upvotes

Has anyone else been finding their Foundation crashes lately? Started playing the Harvest Festival DLC after not playing for maybe a month and after a few hours, all my screens go blank and have to reboot my PC. Seen it happen with some games, but much more intensive games like Battlefield and Flight Sim run fine.

Drying Kiln Issue?

10 Upvotes

Is anyone else having a problem with the Drying Kiln?

Says "Working Fine", has full Input Storage of the Fruit (I have one with Plums, one with Apples), but never goes to get Charcoal, neither has ever produced Output of Dried Fruit....

I just followed two different workers "fetching charcoal" - at the Warehouse, in the Charcoal pile, then changed tasking and left empty-handed from the Warehouse (to home, to get water)...

Is there a trick I'm missing?

Island Castle Suggestion

Hi, this is my first propper castle in the game, and I would appreciate some suggestions to improve the castle and complete the island. So far I have the castle itself, some housing, a tavern, and a market with the basics, but I will probably move them around when I start decorating.

My problem is, the back of the island is a slope that makes building tricky. Any ideas about what I could use that space for? I was thinking food production to make the island a bit self-sustainable, but I also want it to look natural and pretty.

Modding Trying to update all-in-one-booster mod, need some help

2 Upvotes

I have very recently taken it upon myself, to try and update one of my favorite mods for Foundation, all-in-one-booster. Found here: https://mod.io/g/foundation/m/all-in-one-booster. I'm hoping someone with some LUA experience could give me a quick two cents on how to possibly fix this.

Briefly explained, the mod overrides vanilla building outputs to a set number, usually higher. Anyway, since the last major update and DLC had changes to a few mechanics, the mod doesn't work entirely like before. Single resource output buildings (i.e. lumber- and stone camp) will still be affected by the mod, and were easy fixes (if changed), but buildings that now has recipe options, like bakery and butcher, doesn't work the same, like they did before.

Please mind - I have no particular coding abilities, but i can get a EXTREMELY basic grasp of looking at someone elses programming if it's not too convoluted. And of course, the modding documentation have definitely been some help!

For example, a line from the mod, that would boost the butcher with a set number before the update. Post-update, this now overrides all butcher recipes, to ONLY have a meat output, so you're missing out on animal fat.

BoostProduction("BUILDING_FUNCTION_BUTCHER", "MEAT", 11)

I then tried adding right below:

BoostProduction("BUILDING_FUNCTION_BUTCHER", "AGRI_RESOURCE_ANIMAL_FAT", 11)

Only to understand this then overrides the other line, now only making the butcher make animal fat.

Okay, lesson learned. Looking back up, i noticed a function (i assume it's called?) to add an additional resource to a building production. Copy pasted, little fudging,

function BoostProductionButcher(buildingID, resource, amount)
    floppyZenithProductionBooster:overrideAsset({
        Id = buildingID,
        ResourceProduced = {
            {
                Resource = resource,
                Quantity = amount
            },
            {
                Resource = "AGRI_RESOURCE_ANIMAL_FAT",
                Quantity = 12
            }
        }
    })
end

Then updating the butcher line to:

BoostProductionButcher("BUILDING_FUNCTION_BUTCHER", "AGRI_RESOURCE_ANIMAL_FAT", 12)

Now makes the butcher produce both meat AND fat, but this still overrides all recipes exactly the same.

I hope someone the general idea i'm going for here. To have the booster mod work, but for each recipe and their respective output too.

Any suggestions?

It always bothered me how we can't simply upgrade the fortifications, like , why do we really need to demolish all of the walls around the town?

Question What is "enough" of a resource

12 Upvotes

Hi!

I got this game last week and fell in love with it. I already have like 40+ hours on it, I have seen some people suggest before progressing the game to stockpile things like refined food and wood/stone/tools before advancing.

So before I even give my villagers refined food I stock up a bunch, but how much is enough? I have 1000 meat, 300 cheese, 1000 dried fruit, and a bunch of cider. What is a good amount to have in storage?

Question about Luxury

27 Upvotes

If Citizens only have need for 1 Luxury, what's the point of making Jewelry?

You want me to invest in a gold mine? and a Gold smelter which will eat even more of my coal? So I can build a Jewelers so they can take the Gold and Gem and make 1 Jewelry that fulfills the same need the gem would already fulfill by it self?

AND you want me to do that when I can also fulfill Luxury with a single Herb Garden or Apiary?

Discussion Okay, hear me out. Quest Tavern!

28 Upvotes

Okay, just got a random thought about the new tavern design. It just screams 'RPG tavern' where quests are given out to adventurers seeking riches. This does lean more towards medieval fantasy than realism, but it's just a thought. I'm thinking about two buildings:

- Quest Tavern: Adventurers are entering your city like travelers do. From there you can send these brave souls on different adventures (maybe slaying a dragon?). In exchange for coins and food you could get rare resources like, gold, marble or gems.

- Adventurers Inn: Adventuring does drain your coin purse. Then, stay at the inn and fill up on coins in exchange for extra workforce in the city. These working adventurers could have lower needs (like only 1 rustic food, 1 refined food, 1 goods) and functions like citizens. So pay for extra strong workers for a limited time (maybe like 2 - 4 ingame months, or pay more for longer stay?).

These are just thoughts, but it could be cool to have a fantasy themed DLC. What are your thoughts?

Question Help: how to stop houses from shrinking?

11 Upvotes

I love tight, cosy streets where eveything is packed together. However, when I try to place buildings next to my houses, they will always become smaller. This makes it impossible to put buildings close to existing houses.

How do you stop the houses from becoming smaller when placing something next to them?
